‘3 Don’t Want You Back Songs’ features performances courtesy of BØRNS, Leela James, and Eamon. How random.
Ladies and gents, we present to you a quickie, and NO, we’re totally NOT being sexual! Most of our colorful, sometimes risqué playlists have at least 10 songs. One time, we even got incredibly ambitious dropping an overstuffed, 124-song playlist. Yeah, still don’t know “what in Sam Hill” we were thinking there. This time, we strip things way don, examining just three songs. The theme of this mini-mini-playlist is “Don’t Want You Back.” Our three exhibits come courtesy of BØRNS (“I Don’t Want U Back”), Leela James (“Don’t Want You Back”), and Eamon (“F**k It (I Don’t Want You Back)”). Yeah, if you don’t like f-bombs, the latter definitely won’t appeal.
1. BØRNS, “I Don’t Want U Back”
Blue Madonna • Interscope • 2018
“I should’ve known better when you’re coming to bed at four in the morning / I should’ve taken your eyes avoiding me as a warning.” Uh-oh – relationship issues! Michigan bred, Cali-based alternative musician BØRNS nails it on “I Don’t Want U Back,” a promo single from his 2018 sophomore album, Blue Madonna. The biggest selling point of “I Don’t Want You Back” is BØRNS’ distinct, beautiful voice. He exhibits beastly yet radiant tone with his high-pitched vocals. The falsetto is masterful to say the least. Additionally, the production shimmers, while the songwriting is both memorable and thoughtful, particularly the chorus.
“I sleep better than every night you were lying next to me Don’t wanna see your face, you need to face the facts I don’t want you back I don’t want you back.”
2. Leela James, “Don’t Want You Back”
Did It for Love • BMG Rights Management • 2017
“You had a good thing, yeah / And you let it go.” Oh snap! On this soulful, adult contemporary gem from Did It for Love, Leela James keeps it 100. Her ex did her wrong and now he wants her back – NOT HAPPENING!
“And now you wanna try to come back, but no I would never take you back, no …It’s too late I’ve moved on, and I don’t want you back.”
3. Eamon, “Fuck It (I Don’t Want You Back)”
I Don’t Want You Back • Zomba • 2004
“You played me, you even gave him head.” TMI. Anyways, it’s safe to say that Eamon was a one-hit wonder. Can’t be stated enough. What’s surprising is the song that ended up being the hit. Keep in mind, back in 2004, music was less explicit than it is now, even if it was “not that innocent.” “Fuck It (I Don’t Want You Back)” would have a better shot of flying on radio in the 2010s, but it managed to win over fans, excessive profanity and all. Eamon makes it pretty fucking clear (see what we did there?) that he doesn’t want her back.
“Fuck what I said, it don’t mean shit now Fuck the presents, might as well throw ‘em out Fuck all those kisses, they didn’t mean jack Fuck you, you ho, I don’t want you back.”
