The good ‘mood’ continues for melodic rapper 24kGoldn on his short but sweet single, “Coco,” where he’s assisted by DaBaby.
The “Mood” has been great for 24kGoldn in 2020, period! That’s right, the hit song has been dominant, making the rapper plenty of money. He’s back with a new single,
“Coco,” which has the potential to keep elevating his profile and expanding his bank account. On the short but sweet joint (clocks in under two-and-a-half-minutes), he’s assisted by
DaBaby.
Omer Fed and
94Skrt handle the production duties.
“Coco” begins with an intro by 24kGoldn, which seems to revolve around matters of the heart (“How many times you gon’ call me? / Goddamn, this bitch trippin’.”) From there, we are treated to the catchy, melodic chorus:
“Coco Chanel, you ain’t really ‘bout it, I can tell Coco Chanel, can you keep your hands to yourself...”
Much like “Mood,” “Coco” has ample pop sensibilities, given its melodic approach. Beyond the chorus, 24kGoldn is in his zone, singing about this particular girl. He serves up nothing game changing, but it’s effective and enjoyable. DaBaby brings contrast on the second verse. That said, he’s still melodic, though, his deeper voice naturally gives the record a more masculine sound (“Make her feel like I’m from heaven, but I still put up through hell”).
Final Thoughts
All in all, “Coco” is poised to give 24kGoldn another hit single. Can it supplant the success of “Mood.” Eh, I’m not so sure, but all the ingredients are here to propel this young artist to superstardom. That’s definitely a great reason to be in a totally good mood.
