Scanning the Charts โ Billboard 200 & Billboard Hot 100 (10/17/20): 21 Savage and Metro Boomin launch at no. 1 with Savage Mode II.ย
SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.ย I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye.ย To reiterate what I said last week (Machine Gun Kelly & Travis Scott Top), this column wonโt be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that ๐ฉ moving.ย This week, I picked out SIX notable observations from the Billboard 200, and FOUR observations from the Billboard Hot 100, with 21 Savage and Metro Boomin debuting at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with Savage Mode II.ย
Billboard 200ย
๐ญ 21 Savage and Metro Boomin crown the Billboard 200 with Savage Mode II, which moves a robust 171,000 albums per Keith Caulfield of Billboard.
๐ญ BLACKPINK doesnโt do too shabby on the Billboard 200 themselves as The Album launches at no. 2 with six-figure units as well (110,000 per Caulfield).
๐ญ YG also secures a spot in the top five with his latest album, My Life 4Hunnid, debuting at no. 4.
๐ญ Keeping the top five fresh, Bryson Tiller starts at no. 5 with his third studio album, Anniversary.
๐ญ LANY also gets โa piece of the pieโ that is the top 10 as Mamaโs Boy launches at no. 7.
๐ญ With so many new albums in the top 10, weโll reserve the sixth and final takeaway for non-top-10 debuts.ย Dolly Parton and Bon Jovi brighten up the top 20 with A Holly Dolly Christmas (no. 16) and 2020 (no. 19) respectively. Mariah Carey sees The Rarities launch at no. 31 โ she deserves better! Corey Taylor unleashes CMFT at no. 44 โ the final top-50 debut.
Billboard Hot 100
๐ญ Jawsh 685, Jason Derulo, and BTS top the Billboard 200 with โSavage Love (Laxed โ Siren Beat).โ โSavage Loveโ marks the first no. 1 hit for Jawsh 685, while Jason Derulo and BTS have previously held the no. 1 spot.
๐ญ Shawn Mendes debuts at no. 18 with โWonderโ, the promo single from his highly anticipated fourth studio album, Wonder (December 4, 2020).
๐ญ Travis Scott, Young Thug, M.I.A. experience as setback this week. โFranchiseโ takes a sizable tumble from no. 1 to no. 25.
๐ญ The ever-popular Megan Thee Stallion charts another new song on the Hot 100.ย Assisted by Young Thug, โDonโt Stopโ launches at no. 30.
