6. Maren Morris, “80s Mercedes”
Album: Hero, 2016
Maren Morris ‘takes it back’ on “80s Mercedes.”
“Call me old school, but hey / I’m a 90s baby in my 80s Mercedes.”
We previously analyzed Morris on our Songs Where It’s All About the Numbers | Playlist as well and more recently on the 10 Mercedes Benz Songs | Playlist. Known for her Grammy-winning hit “My Church,” she follows up the juggernaut soundly on “80s Mercedes.” Representative of eclectic, new-look country, the 80s gets a nod. Although this Benz isn’t new it:
“Still runs good, built to last / Moves like a hula girl on the dash / She ain’t made for practicality / Yeah, I guess she’s just like me.”
Can I get a hallelujah?
7. Desiigner, “Panda”
Album: New English, 2016
Originally, “Panda” earned a spot on the 12 Songs That Name-Drop the Rolls-Royce Wraith | Playlist. He wasn’t nearly as obsessed about the Wraith like some of his contemporaries. Still, he references the Wraith:
“Know some killas pull off and they in the Wraith…”
His foreign of choice is the BMW X6, another sick ride. He raps about the X6 on the infectious hook of the former no. 1 hit.
“I got broads in Atlanta / Twistin’ dope, lean, and the Fanta / Credit cards and the scammers / Hittin’ off licks in the bando / Black X6, Phantom / White X6 look like a Panda / Goin’ out like I’m Montana / Hundred killas, hundred hammers.”
8. DJ Khaled ft. Future & Jay-Z, “I Got the Keys”
Album: Major Key, 2016
Holding the keys to a Rolls Royce Wraith would certainly be a Major Key – rather a major set of keys or a major purchase (>$300,000). “I Got the Keys” appeared on another The Musical Hype playlist, 12 Songs That Name-Drop the Rolls-Royce Wraith | Playlist. Guest Future gets the “Wraith talk” started on “I Got the Keys.”
“Wraith talk, Wraith talk / Oh, we talkin’ that Wraith talk.”
Deep stuff for sure. Jay-Z also gets on the action as well:
“That Wraith talk, that’s foreign, n*gga.”
9. 2 Chainz ft. Lil Wayne, “Bentley Truck”
Album: ColleGrove, 2016
2 Chainz returns once again on the Foreign Cars Songs. It’s not surprising because the southern rapper loves his rides. He raps about them all the time. On ColleGrove, marketed as a solo album by Chainz, but really a collaborative effort with Lil Wayne, “Bentley Truck” isn’t the only foreign-loving joint. “Rolls Royce Weather Every Day” gets into the action as well. Regardless, “Bentley Truck” is the better banger of the two. The hook is fabulous.
“This the shit you play when you in a Bentley truck / This the shit you play when them strippers acting up / This the shit you play when you smoke a zip and up / This the shit you play when you sippin’ out a cup.”
2 Chainz showcases his normal, idiosyncrasies as a rapper. He goes stupid to say the least. Lil Wayne is on fire.
10. The Game Ft. Diddy, “Standing on Ferraris”
Album: The Documentary 2, 2015
“Standing on Ferraris” gave The Game a highlight from The Documentary 2, released in 2015. He enlisted hip-hop royalty for the assist, Diddy. In a review penned for Starpulse, regarding “Standing on Ferraris” I wrote, “The Game is clearly on autopilot, unapologetic to the nth degree.”
“I’ve been shot, stabbed, left for dead / Walked through every hood in LA / Bandana on my head, guaranteed that shit was red / Machetes and them choppers out, b*tches with their knockers out / I done f*cked ‘em all, that’s why I’m standing on Ferraris, n*gga.”
