1. Artemas, “mess of me, sexually”

yustyna // Artemas // 2024

Artemas, yustyna [📷: Artemas]“Baby, know exactly how I like it / You know if I’m calling it’s a crisis / Go make a mess of me, sexually.” That is what the English-Cypriot singer, songwriter, and producer Artemas (Artemas Diamandis) asserts on “mess of me, sexually”, the 13th track on his 2024 mixtape, yustyna. Who assisted Diamandis in the composition and production of the sexual mess 🤭? That would be Daintree and Kevin White. “Mess of me sexually” is quick in tempo.  It features energetic, exuberant production.  Two of the best features are the lovely, detuned synths and the thumping beat.  The beat easily encourages the listener to nod their head. Beyond the instrumental, Artemas delivers solid vocals and engaging songwriting. “‘Cause, girl, you’re magic, such a savage / The way you wipe me like I ain’t somebody average,” Artemas sings in the first verse, continuing, “The way you cheatin’ on your man, gon’ do some damage / I should feel bad, I should feel bad, but.” He doesn’t feel bad, thinking with his… He makes this clear in the second verse where he’s far more assertive – more aggressive sexually: “Take a shot and do some blow, I fucked her like that / Carbon angel, fucked her halo / The way I bend you over up against the table…” Ooh-wee, Artemas! The section to beat in this sexually charged gem is the memorable, infectious chorus (excerpted above) that you’ll be unable to get out of your head.  Artemas brings the heat on “mess of me, sexually”.

2. Sexyy Red, “Get It Sexy”

In Sexyy We Trust // Open Shift / gamma. // 2024

Sexyy Red, In Sexyy We Trust [📷: Rebel / gamma.]“Slim, thick, chrome skin / 5’5”, this bitch a ten (Yeah) / Hair done, bills paid / Catch me slidin’ in a Benz…” Sexyy Red is something else! Ultimately, it’s how unapologetic and outlandish the rapper is that makes her interesting, even if the bars she spits lack transcendence.  There are far better and more talented rappers, but songs that ‘go stupid’ like “Get It Sexyy” from her 2024 mixtape, In Sexyy We Trust, are entertaining to listen to.  Tay Keith and Jake Fridkis produced. They give her a malicious, minor-key backdrop that perfectly fuels her fire. She’s true to herself with simple, highly sexual bars, and ample confidence. Beyond the chorus (excerpted above), Sexyy Red delivers a sole verse with no shortage of wild bars. “Yeah, boy, you know this ass super fat (I ain’t lyin’, though),” she brags, continuing, “Fuck me good, I’m throwin’ that shit back (I’m his favorite hoe).” There’s more, with the likes of  “Big Sexy blood, love the hoes / Bounce that ass, touch them toes / Booty shorts, coochie swoll / Thong all up my booty hole.” Woo! She also manages to flip a nursery rhyme and make it, ratchet: “Little miss Sexyy walkin’ down the street (Beep beep) / I don’t know what to do ‘cause the niggas after me (Yeah, yeah).” Like many of her other records, there is clapping because why not? As ‘stupid’ as “Get It Sexxy” goes, it has some enjoyable, melodic moments in the backdrop. Even though it lacks class and depth, and has no shame, it’s incredibly entertaining.

3. Hot Chocolate, “You Sexy Thing”

Hot Chocolate // Parlophone // 1975

Hot Chocolate, Hot Chocolate [📷: Parlophone]“I believe in miracles / Where you from / You sexy thing?” British soul collective Hot Chocolate took a risk with “You Sexy Thing”.  Sure, sexy is considered mild by today’s standards, but back then, that was pushing the envelope for sure! It should be noted, deceased lead singer Errol Brown (1943 – 2015) wrote it about his wife.  Even if it was more scandalous, there was no harm or foul because “You Sexy Thing” was a resounding success. In the U.S., it marked one of three top-10 hits by Hot Chocolate.  Furthermore, it marked the most successful single by the collective, peaking at no. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1976. “You Sexy Thing” was certified gold by the RIAA in 1976, which was a big deal back then.  Adding to the success, the parent album, Hot Chocolate, released in 1975, peaked at no. 41 on the Billboard 200 in 1976, coinciding with the success of “You Sexy Thing.”

Sexiness paid off, big-time.  The chorus, which appears at the onset, is infectious – tuneful to the nth degree. The miracles mentioned in the chorus continue into the first verse, where Brown sings, “Miracles right before my eyes / You sexy thing got me hypnotized.” More like, hot and bothered, right Errol?  Of course, he gets ‘spiritual’ too, characterizing this fine, sexy lady as “My angel from above lying next to me,” later adding, “Doing all the things that make my heart ring.” Woo! The second verse is patterned similarly, as Brown continues to praise “you sexy thing,” of course! Besides the fun lyrics, and Errol’s electrifying vocals, the music is incredible – funky, soulful, and equally memorable to the lyrics (Mickie Most produced). “You Sexy Thing” remains a beloved hit approaching 50 years after its release.

4. JORDY, “SEX WITH MYSELF”

SEX WITH MYSELF // JORDY // 2024

JORDY, SEX WITH MYSELF [📷: JORDY]“It’s better alone ‘cause I know / Just what to do more than you.” The sex, I mean, that line ‘hits different,’ JORDY (Jordy Shulman)! Rather than rely on the stimulation of a boy who isn’t coming to the party, Shulman has decided to have sex with himself on “SEX WITH MYSELF”.  The boldly titled “SEX WITH MYSELF” is the seventh track of his sophomore album, fittingly titled, Sex with Myself.  Yes, the song is quite, um, masturbatory, but it goes beyond the physical stimulation of solo touch.  “Put on a show of my own / And I’ll follow through,” the sexy, talented artist continues singing in the pre-chorus. “I’ll just have sex with myself / I’m obsessed with myself / I’ll keep my hands to myself…” This ode to self-pleasure and acknowledging, ‘I don’t have to have a man to fulfill me’ was written by JORDY and Perry Xthona alongside producers Alex Borel and Colin Foote.  The sound is danceable, flirty, and, of course, sexy.  Upping the ante are the playful vocals by JORDY. He seems unbothered that it’s just him and his body. “Think I’m catching feels / Fall in love, think I might be the one,” he sings in the second verse, concluding, “Me myself and I’m getting closer.” Hmm, getting closer to what, handsome 🥵 😮‍💨? Anyways, if the audio titillates, watch the music video. Not only does JORDY have a blast, all alone, the way he simulates the sex with himself, tastefully, mind you, is, hawt… On the sleek, sexy “SEX WITH MYSELF”, Jordy makes ‘self-sex’ sexy… or sexier… you catch my drift.

5. Clairo, “Sexy to Someone”

Charm // Clairo // 2024

Clairo, Charm [📷: Clairo]“Sexy to someone is all I really want.” Agreed, Clairo (Claire Cottrill). “Sexy to Someone” is the second track from her third studio album, Charm.  Cottrill, Homer Steinweiss, Leon Michels, and Nick Movshon penned this ‘sexy’ joint while Cottrill and Michels produced.  “Sexy to Someone” is groovy from an instrumental perspective.  It features a prominent bass line and sickening keyboard hits.  Also amplifying the sexiness are the sensational, rhythmic synth lines. From a vocal perspective, Clairo delivers a lovely performance that is – wait for it – sexy through and through. “Sexy is something I see in everything,” she asserts in the second verse, adding in the bridge, “I want to be sexy to someone (Is it too much to ask?).” The section to beat, unsurprisingly, is the chorus:

“Sexy to somebody, it would help me out

Oh, I need a reason to get out of the house

And it’s just a little thing I can’t live without.”

Word. “Sexy to Someone” by Clairo is pretty S-E-X-Y, SEXY!

6. ØZI & Sunset Rollercoaster, “SEX TAPE”

“SEX TAPE” // OZMD MUSIC COMPANY LIMITED // 2024

ØZI & Sunset Rollercoaster, SEX TAPE [📷: OZMD MUSIC COMPANY LIMITED]“So, we should make a sex tape (sex tape) / Let’s make a sex tape (sex tape).” Oh my, ØZI (Stefan Chen Yi-fan) 🥵! When it comes to filming it, to each their own.  However, as handsome and talented as the Taiwanese American musician is, who would resist participating in that “SEX TAPE”? His voice is sublime – buttery smooth.  He sings in English and Mandarin which is impressive.  After proposing this sex tape, he adds in the crowning achievement, the chorus, “Watch you fuck me like a Japanese pornstar / Look to the camera, girl / You a natural, baby.” Holy she-it 🥵! Oh, and for good measure, later, he urges her to “hold that pose for the money shot.”

ØZI isn’t the only star on this sex song. He collaborates with the Taiwanese collective, Sunset Rollercoaster.  Sunset Rollercoaster is comprised of Tseng Kuo-Hung (guitar), Chen Hung-Li (bass), Wang Shao-Hsuan (synthesizer), Tsun-Lung Lo (drums), and Huang Hao Ting (saxophone). The band plays a key role in the sound of “SEX TAPE.” Their instrumental contributions craft a satisfying blend of pop, contemporary R&B, Mandopop, hip-hop, and jazz.  The musicianship is as sexy as the vocals and lyrics sung by ØZI.  The best instrumental feature is the saxophone. Hao Ting’s soloing is expressive – quite radiant.  Nothing screams sex like a saxophone, right? Right! A naughty song, “SEX TAPE” by ØZI and Sunset Rollercoaster is irresistible.

7. BRONZE AVERY, “SEX IN THE ROOM”

HEATWAVE // BRONZE AVERY // 2024

BRONZE AVERY, HEATWAVE [📷: BRONZE AVERY]“Sex in the room / She knows it / She knows it / She knows that you know it too / Her body / Her movement / You know it’s sex in the room.” The keyword is SEX! “SEX IN THE ROOM” is the 13th and penultimate track from HEATWAVE, the 2024 album by BRONZE AVERY. This sub-three-minute cut was written by AVERY. He also produced it with SCRO.  The sound of the record and vocals is as captivating as the lyrics. BRONZE’s vocals are heavy on vocal effects.  The vocals sound summery to the nth degree. His ad-libs are excellent – on-point. Besides the bright-sounding vocals and the sickening ad-libs, the instrumental is bright too.  The backdrop is synth heavy, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.  Besides the infectious, sexual chorus (excerpted above), the melodies are tuneful.  The lyrics aren’t deep, but the vibe is vibing! “She’s cool, so cool / Blue fire,” he sings in the first verse, continuing, “Your desire / But does she want you too? / Oh.” Oh, indeed! In the second verse, “She knows her timing / She’ll make her debut / Classically bold and new.” Word.  “SEX IN THE ROOM” is giving heaping dosages of SEX, duh!

8. Justin Timberlake, “Infinity Sex”

Everything I Thought It Was // RCA // 2024

Justin Timberlake, Everything I Thought It Was [📷: RCA]“Yeah, I wanna love you for eternity,” Grammy-winning, pop superstar Justin Timberlake asserts in the first verse of “Infinity Sex”. “Infinity Sex” arrives as the eight track on JT’s 2024 LP, Everything I Thought It Was.  Timberlake pens this sexy pop joint alongside James Fauntleroy, Calvin Harris, Timbaland, Angel López, and Federico Vindver. What a sensational team! Producing the near-four-minute highlight is Timberlake, Timbaland, and Vindver.  Among the sounds that make the ears perk up are the infectious, disco-infused groove, robust bass line, utterly sublime keys, and sophisticated strings.  Don’t get it twisted though – Timberlake still has S-E-X on the brain on this rhythmic cut.

Eternal love drives the first verse, but the sex comes alive in the chorus:

“I don’t know you anymore

Soon as all your clothes hit the floor

Pray this hotel room is insured

How many times? I stopped keepin’ score (I’m not sure)

But if I had to guess

Infinity sex, girl

The future is a mess

But if I had to guess (Yes).”

Well, it seems like they did it… a lot. In the second verse, he adds, “I wanna be your man, lose control, and / When you start moanin’, let’s take a moment…” A moment, huh 😈? While putting in the work in the bedroom, Justin Timberlake delivers lovely vocals.  The vocal production and arrangement help to elevate the amorous, bedroom vibes, particularly the blend of Timberlake’s middle register and falsetto. Besides traditional vocals, there’s gimmickry, which goes with the territory with JT’s music. Towards the end of the record, he gives us a beat switch – common from his FutureSex/LoveSounds era. In the outro, he asserts, “I know the address on your mattress / Just imagine the acrobatics, woo.” Enough said.  “Infinity Sex” speaks for its freak self!

9. JC Chasez, “All Day Long I Dream About Sex”

Schizophrenic // Zomba Recording LLC // 2024

JC Chasez, Schizophrenic [📷: Zomba]JC Chasez is a one-hit wonder. But, just because only one song from his 2004 album, Schizophrenic earned commercial success doesn’t mean there weren’t other intriguing songs.  Anytime sex is mentioned in a song title, it draws attention. “All Day Long I Dream About Sex,” the ninth track, is on the nose.  Besides the title revealing the deck of cards, the album version of “All Day Long I Dream About Sex” runs six minutes long.  Instrumentally, there are some captivating happenings.  Fabulous guitar riffs, a hard-hitting danceable beat, and electronic elements are sweet. A production change past the song’s midway point (the album version, only) keeps things interesting.  Here, the instrumental is led by colorful, picturesque synths. Within the final minute, “All Day Long I Dream About Sex” returns to its original form, with Chasez singing the most memorable moment, the chorus.

“All day long, I dream about sex

And all night long, I think about sex

And all the time, I think about sex with you, with you.”

The lyrics aren’t the most eloquent.  That is an understatement. “I just want to get close to you / Find out what it takes to move you,” Chasez sings in the first verse, continuing, “Feel the rhythm, hit the spot, getting hot / All night long.” In the second verse, he describes himself as “a love machine / Ready 24/7.” Oh, boy! “Did I forget to mention? School’s back in session / Get ready for a lesson.” There’s a heaping dose of camp, undoubtedly. Chasez’s vocals are unique and ear-catching.  Is it surprising that “All Day Long I Dream About Sex” from Schizophrenic wasn’t a hit? No.  Did it deserve a fairer shake? Maybe.  If nothing else, sex with JC 😈… never mind!

10. Chris Brown, “Sex So Good”

11:11 (Deluxe) // RCA // 2024

Chris Brown, 11:11 [📷: RCA]“Sex so good when you in your feelings, woah / But you can’t stay mad when I’m all up in it, can’t stay mad.” Oh, snap! Grammy-winning R&B singer Chris Brown has a knack for singing songs about good sex.  “Sex So Good” is no exception.  It only appears in the 2024 deluxe edition of his 2023 album, 11:11.  Besides singing about awesome sex (“All of this passion make the sex so good”), slick production amplifies the bedroom experience.  Troy Taylor, Xris Keys, and Willonnabeat give Brown a sickening backdrop.  Brown brings the heat, bringing the rhythmic, tuneful melodies to life.  He delivers confident, sexy vocals. “Baby, you could use some company / Oh-oh (Oh), but you look so good when you tight with me,” he sings the first verse.  In the second, he asserts, “Something ‘bout it just hits different when you mad at me / Your attitude turn you to a freak.” Ooh-wee! Another banger hails from the pre-chorus: “Oh, you’d rather meet me in your bed, yeah / …And before you cut me off, I’ll come through and break you off, shawty.” Ooh-la-la! Warm background vocals support Brown. The vocal layers are part of the allure and charm of “Sex So Good.” The section to beat is the chorus, excerpted at the top.  It continues, sexually:

“I got your legs up (Legs up)

Make you forget you even said somethin’ (Said somethin’)

Oh, that shit taste better when you fed up (Fed up), oh

All of this passion make the sex so good.”

Word. What more is there to say? That ‘mad’ “Sex So Good” Chris!

11. Tayo Ricci, “Sex”

“SEX” // Level Seven // 2023

Tayo Ricci, Sex [📷: Level Seven]“I don’t want this to come across the wrong way but / I wanna fuck the shit out of you.” Holy shit 😳! If you’ve followed Tayo Ricci (Matteo Ricciuti) on YouTube or TikTok, these lyrics from the intro of his song, “Sex” shouldn’t be the least bit surprising.  Undoubtedly, Ricci is studly. Can you blame him for refraining from wearing a shirt? The man’s ripped AF 💪 and yummy 🤤.  On “Sex,” which he wrote and produced, he’s blunt and brutally honest. SFW? No way, Jose! Ask yourself, is sex ever safe for work save for sex work?

From the production end of things, Ricci Tayo puts in work.  The backdrop is slick, and seedy sounding.  You can hear the sex! No, there are no orgasmic sounds, but the instrumental captures it. Of course, Tayo lays it out, rather, down. “You wanna put da pussy up in my face / I’m gonna fuck you baby ‘til you in pain,” he sings in the first verse, adding, “Eyes rollin’ back, putting you in a daze / Begging for my cream lemme give you a taste.” Wow… The second verse is freaky, too: “Fuck me like a pornstar don’t feel ashamed / Three times, it’s four times, we in a race / I go deep so you can feel my veins / You wanna make love but it’s all the same.”  The moment to beat is the chorus.  Tayo doesn’t suppress his hunger:

“Sex

I want sex

I want it baby, yes

Drop that ass on my dick

Keep screamin’ I’m the best, ay

I want sex

I want it baby, yes

Got your legs on my neck

I want it baby.”

What more needs to be said? “One plus one equals two / You a freak / And I’m one too.” On “Sex”, Tayo thinks with his penis.

12. Emi Larraud, “Sex, Break, Down!”

“Sex, Break, Down” // E.L. // 2023

Emi Larraud, Sex, Break, Down! [📷: E.L.]“Your touch kills me like amphetamines / Your hands burn me up like gasoline / I want it all but I can’t have you.” Damn! Emi Larraud is the man – a young man at that! The talented Gen-Z musician, originally from Madrid and based in NYC, records some ear catching tracks. “Sex, Break, Down!” released in 2023, is a prime example of Emi hard at work. What better way to kick things off than orgasmic sounds? Honestly, his moans make you feel some type of way 😈! And as the lyrical excerpts suggest, the desire is, um, deadly 😵! “Sex, Break, Down!” features marvelous, ornate production work.  Check out Larraud’s music, and lavish production ‘goes with the territory.’ The inspiration – the fuel for the fire – is on full display. Beyond the instrumental, Emi delivers strong, passionate vocals.  Adding to the allure are incredibly tuneful melodies. “Baby I want you / I don’t wanna come down,” he sings, passionately, continuing, “I wanna love you / I don’t wanna break down / I’ve had enough of all the pain I can’t run from.” Woo! This shit is getting personal! One other note of the must-hear greatness that is “Sex, Break, Down!”. It features some pitch-shifted vocals performing select French phrases. Now that’s sexy! Je t’adore, Emi Larraud!

13. Village People, “Sex Over the Phone”

Sex Over the Phone // Can’t Stop Productions NYC // 1985

Village People, Sex Over the Phone [📷: Can’t Stop Productions NYC]“At home or in the car / Don’t matter where you are / Don’t wanna be alone / You just pick up the phone.” Ah, Village People are referencing phone sex on their 1985 song, “Sex Over the Phone”.  By the time “Sex Over the Phone” arrived, the peak of the collective had long come and passed.  Still, what’s a bold collective to do? Record a sexually charged song that raises eyebrows! Focusing specifically on the excerpted lyrics, they should be dated by 2020s standards, however, the ability to enjoy sex via the phone – cellphones now – has only expanded.

Still, can anyone deny that “Sex Over the Phone” is a prime example of camp central.  “I can lie there in my bed, painting pictures in my head,” the collective asserts, adding, “ I just touch my princess and I go crazy.” Is it far-fetched? Nope.  Adult entertainment and self-pleasure remain in high demand, even if lines regarding payphones and specific adult entertainment phone numbers are dated. “This is the part I hate / Why do they make you wait? / Here’s where the fevers rise / Enough to cross my eyes.” Yeah, the waiting period isn’t a thing now… 😈 But, we must remember, the internet wasn’t a thing back then. The Village People can thank technological advancement for why “Sex Over the Phone” is surprisingly relevant almost 40 years later.  It’s dated in sound mind you – very much idiomatic of the 1980s – but, when you’re getting none, you can get some, over the phone.  Of course, there are also hook-up apps these days, too.

14. Right Said Fred, “I’m Too Sexy”

Up // Gut Reaction, Ltd. // 1992

Right Said Fred, Up [📷: Gut Reaction, Ltd.]“I’m too sexy for my shirt / Too sexy for my shirt / So sexy it hurts.” If you’ve got it, flaunt it, right? Richard Fairbrass of Right Said Fred didn’t see the need to keep his shirt on, so, he took it off! “I’m Too Sexy” appeared as the third track on the English band’s 1992 album, Up.  Both campy and infectious to the nth degree, the single spent three weeks at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The platinum certified single is a prime example of a one-hit-wonder. Fairbrass isn’t only too sexy for his shirt – he’s too sexy for anywhere! This over sexiness includes being “Too sexy for Milan / New York, and Japan,” “Too sexy for my car,” Too sexy for my cat,” and “Too sexy for my love.” Going back to the cat, specifically, Fairbrass adds, “Poor pussy, poor pussy cat.” Ooh-wee! Of course, there’s one more set of lyrics worth analyzing – the chorus! “I’m a model, you know what I mean / And I do my little turn on the catwalk.” Confidence isn’t a bad thing as long as you’re not too cocky or hedonistic! Obviously, the lyrics aren’t deep – cringe to the nth degree –  but also fun and silly.  The music video only amplifies the cringe, but that’s the intent. The instrumental is groovy to the nth degree – it screams dance floor! Notably, this Tommy D-produced joint samples three songs: “Third Stone from the Sun” (Jimi Hendrix), “Think (About It)” (Lyn Collins), and “Hot Pants (Bonus Beats)” (Bobby Byrd).  Even if “I’m Too Sexy” is that one-hit-wonder you roll your eyes at every time it comes on, you can’t deny it’s impact in pop culture.  Oh, and it’s been sampled in other songs by big-name artists such as Drake, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé.
