1. Orville Peck, Kylie Minogue & Diplo, âMidnight Rideâ
Stampede // Orville Peck, LLC / Warner // 2024
Did you ever expect Orville Peck, Kylie Minogue, and Diplo to collaborate? The answer is NO. However, those three talented musicians joined forces for âMidnight Rideâ from Peckâs 2024 album, Stampede. Peck, Minogue, Marci, and Chris Stracey penned âMidnight Ride.â Diplo, Stracey, and Picard Brothers produced. âMidnight Rideâ is set in a minor key â dark, but not too dark. The production is fantastic. It incorporates cues from pop, country, and dance. Country music fans may cry foul that itâs nontraditional, but non-country music fans will embrace the eclectic vibes. The smoking hot Peck is the first voice heard, singing with a beautiful tone. The warmth, depth, and masculine timbre of his voice are impressive. Following his verse and the pre-chorus, the listener gets the first taste of the irresistible chorus:
âLet me take you on a midnight ride
Baby, you and I
Ooh, so much we could explore
Pull me closer under moonlit skies
Fire in your eyes
Ooh, you got me burninâ.â
Minogue enters the mix in the second verse. She contrasts Peckâs singing with subtlety in an undertone. She rises to the occasion duetting with him in the second chorus, showing more commanding, dynamic vocals. Besides the chorus, one of the most fun moments of the song is the bridge where both singers show off their personalities. Orville, Kylie, and Diplo kill it on âMidnight Rideâ.Â

2. Doja Cat, âRideâ
Planet Her (Deluxe) // Kemosabe / RCA // 2021
âBoy, Iâm lookinâ at you, donât walk away / Cominâ home at like two, then four, then eight.â Oh my! Doja Cat (Amala Dlamini), what is yoâ man doing? âI saw you sneakinâ, tryna plant one on her / Oh, you mad all the sudden âcause your man got my number?â Oh, shit, heâs in big trouble! âRideâ is the 18th track on the deluxe version of the Grammy winnerâs third album, Planet Her.  In the three-minute groovy song slickly produced by Yeti Beats, Dlamini has been played â U-S-E-D! âNeed somebody to love on me, baby, baby, oh / Low-key, I love it when you talk to me,â she raps in the second verse, concluding, âBut I donât wanna be your one-night thing / Oh, help me, can we? Oh.â In the chorus, the centerpiece, she questions his lack of sincerity. âWhere is your jealousy? Why wonât you cry? / This is just telling me you took me for a ride.â Sad, but at least, Doja found out sooner than later.  In this context, the ride was sketchy AF.

3. Artemas, âride me darlingâ
yustyna // Artemas // 2024Â
âRide me, darling / Ride me, sweetheart, I can feel you.â Of course, you can, Artemas (Artemas Diamandis). It doesnât take rocket science to figure out what the English Cypriot singer, songwriter, and producer is encouraging her to DO đ. âFixing these scars / Fuck away the pain in your heart,â he continues singing in the intro and eventual chorus. âRide me darlingâ, the eighth track from the mixtape, yustyna, keeps things brief, running about a minute and a half in duration. Diamandis penned and produced ârideâ with Kevin White.
Â
âRide me darlingâ is a surefire vibe. Why? The sound of the record is a prime reason. It is groovy. Also, the instrumental backdrop is colorful â the beat, synths, and the bass synth. Diamandisâ vocals stand out. They are playful and filled with effects. Of course, what Artemas sings is enticing because itâs often sexually charged. âYou know, you got me tweaking every single night,â he sings in the verse, adding âYou got this sickness in my mind last night.â He admits to âgetting nervous in myself,â asking her to âJust put your arms around it.â It, huh? Hmm đ€. In the outro, the theme is similar â fucking the pain away:Â
âLook me in the face
Iâm losinâ control, mm, put your legs, ooh
Fuck away the pain in your heart.â
Albeit brief, âride me darlingâ marks another fabulous moment from yustyna. Artemas conveys his emotions and his horniness đ.

4. Grant Brett, âRideâ
âRideâ // Dark Dance // 2024
âIâm gonna give you the ride of your life.â By ride, Portland, Oregon pop singer/songwriter Grant Brett is NOT referencing a car. He titillates on the brief, naughty single, âRideâ: âIâm gonna make you cum, cum all night.â Sex positivity â itâs all the rage! When tweeting about his single, he asserts, âIâm ready to Ride đ,â adding, âI hope you love my new power bottom anthem.â Power bottom, huh đ đ đ? Lyrics and playful vocals by Brett make âRideâ a surefire vibe. It begins with pleasure-filled, breathy vocals in the intro (âYeah⊠you like thatâ). Thatâs the perfect preface for musical and physical pleasure. From there, he gets sassy, supported by an energetic, electric backdrop with a rhythmic beat. âIâm gonna show you all that I can do / Iâm gonna make all your dreams come true / Iâm gonna give it to you / Gonna show you what this boy can do, do, do.â Brett is confident that the âS Meets E and then they Xâ is potent â #GIVING! Eventually, it leads to the ride and the explosion đŠ đ. Brett keeps things freaky, with the gimmicky, âL-l-l-love me right / Go, go, go all night,â vowing to âBounce, bounce, bounce, all night.â The âRideâ is a short one â sub-two minutes â but Grant Brett gets the job done đ! Itâs the booty anthem you didnât know that you needed!

5. Ciara, âRideâ (Ft. Ludacris)
Instinct // LaFace //2010
âHe love the way I ride it, He love the way I ride the beat / Like a freak, freak, freak.â The ârideâ that Ciara references in âRideâ involves the joystick đčïž đ! âRide,â which appears on her 2010 album, Basic Instinct, is naughty, raunchy, and risquĂ©. C enlists Ludacris for the assist, which seems to be a match made in heaven⊠or hell⊠ Luda should get down on his knees and pray, particularly when it comes to lines like, âShe ride it like a roller coaster / As soon as I get her to the top, she screams.â Part of the raunchiness is because of the songwriting/production team: Christopher âTrickyâ Stewart, Terius âThe-Dreamâ Nash, and Kuk Harrell. The-Dream, specifically, has been known for his fair share of dirty songs, so, itâs not surprising his pen plays a role on this âhot and botheredâ cut. Ciara is lustful and gets the boys horny too. She claims to be a gymnast at one point, but the only gymnastics sheâll be competing in are in the bedroom, or, wherever she and her man enjoy âmaking love.â The music video is as sexy as H-E- đ– đ. Ciara is a beautiful woman, and her dance moves are on point. She rides a bull, which is symbolic of a well-endowed joystick. This slow jam, which runs north of four-and-a-half minutes, is quite a stimulating RIDE! Vroom, vroom đïž!

6. ur pretty, âKeep Riding Meâ
âKeep Riding MeââŻ// ur prettyâŻ// 2021
Four words: âJust keep riding me.â How about six words: âJust keep on fucking me deep.â Now that is sexual AF, NO CAP! Ur pretty (Jake Hill) intended the lyrics to involve those private parts. Furthermore, âKeep Riding Meâ doesnât go straight â itâs G-A-Y. âI canât think straight when I look into your eyes,â Hill sings in the first verse, later adding, âYeah, your mustache tickles my nut sack, baby.â Wow â TMI! It doesnât stop there, folks, on this sub-two-and-a-half-minute joint! âYou got a way with your words and a big fat cock.â
âFlip me over, beat my meat up while you pound it.â Holy shit! The lyrics are âsomething elseâ to say the least â UNDERSTATEMENT. In this case, they should be taken with a grain of salt. âKeep Riding Meâ feels less an ode to male-on-male love than, say, pop-punk humor. Regardless, Hill serves up some compelling vocals. His best moment comes by way of the risquĂ© chorus, which is sexed-up to the nth degree but also, entertaining: Â
âHe spreads my cheeks, and he makes me screamÂ
Heâs my number one daddy, gotta make him cream inside of meÂ
Just keep riding meÂ
When Iâm slurping him down, itâs my favorite soundÂ
You let out a little moan, what a beautiful toneÂ
So softly, just keep riding me.â Â

7. BRONZE AVERY, âCHAOTIC RIDEâ
HEATWAVE // BRONZE AVERY // 2024
âHere you are / Brand new to the city / I know youâre lost, but youâre safe if youâreâ
withâ
me.â Aww, BRONZE AVERY đ„°, you amorous, handsome fella you! The pop musician delivers a surefire bop with âCHAOTIC RIDE,â the seventh track from his 2024 LP, HEATWAVE. AVERY penned and produced the shimmering two-and-a-half-minute cut. âCHAOTIC RIDEâ features exuberant, summery vocals. Vocal effects enhance his pipes. Matters of the heart (and bedroom) drive the narrative; they never grow stale. âIn between all the beauty of trust / And the mystery of a dirty lust / Come over / Come on,â he sings in the second verse. In the pre-chorus, he informs his boo, âI can’t speak cause your cause your love makes me dizzy / And you feel brand new for the millionth time.â Again, I say, aww đ„°. The chorus is the crĂšme de la crĂšme â the centerpiece:
âI’ll be your guide
Chaotic ride
I can’t say lies
You should take control
Hard as you can go
Just take me there with you, you, you, you.â
âCHAOTIC RIDEâ thrives thanks to love, a danceable groove, hypnotic, sleek synths, and those sickening summery vibes.

8. Lana Del Rey, âRideâ
Born To Die: The Paradise Edition // Lana Del Rey / Interscope // 2012
âRideâ begins Paradise, the 2012 EP by Grammy-nominated pop singer/songwriter Lana Del Rey. The EP is affixed to Del Reyâs debut album, Born to Die as Born to Die: The Paradise Edition. âRideâ is a vibe â enigmatic like many a Del Rey song. âŻDel Rey is in her lower register which is undoubtedly both rich and unique. Del Rey does manage to ascend into her upper register, where she is much more decipherable and precise as a vocalist. âŻProduced by the legendaryâŻRick Rubin, âRideâ has a standard pop/rock groove, but still possesses an alternative-pop sensibility. Strings reside here like Born to Die. âŻThe songwriting is solid, particularly the chorus: âI hear the birds on the summer breeze, I drive fast/ I am alone in the night / Been trying hard not to get into trouble, but I / Iâve got a war in my mindâŠâ âŻDel Rey grows more pointed in the bridge, singing, âIâm tired of feeling like Iâm fucking crazy/ Iâm tired of driving âtil I see stars in my eyesâŠâ âŻOoh-wee, Lana! Overall, âRideâ is an enjoyable and well-rounded musical trip.  Â

9. Russ, âRide Slowâ
Thereâs Really a Wolf // Columbia // 2017
âIâm pullinâ up at 3 / This car just ainât the same without you here next to me / All I wanna do is ride slow / Ride slow, like a ghost.â Thereâs Really a Wolf marked the debut album by do-it-yourself, rapper, singer, and producer Russ, who carved his success in the industry slowly but steadily. He showed that âthe wolfâ possessed plenty of potential. âRide Slow,â the albumâs sixth track, focuses on romancing a particular woman. He describes her as a tough one for sure, as she has commitment issues, which he tackles on both verses of the record. âWe been goinâ back and forth, you think I only want sex,â he asserts in the first verse, continuing, âOf course I want it, look at you, but that ainât my intentions.â He builds her up in the second: âI saw you at your worst, still think youâre the best / Iâma scoop you tonight.â Ice cream â well, something like that!

10. Nicholas Dante, âHellriderâ
Inferno // Clouded Diamonds // 2013Â
âYou wanna be hooked on me / Looking for a little tasteâŠâ Yes, Nicholas Dante! The handsome musician đ damns us all to hell (the second circle of hell specifically) listening to his titillating single, âHellriderâ. It commences enigmatically before Nicholas sings one naughty note. Early on, the backdrop signals hellishness is on the horizon! Adding fuel to the fire is the minor key, fitting for a dark, infernal, and lustful experience. The main source of the hellishness is Dante, the tease that he is! His delivery is drenched in naughtiness, serving up playful vocals. He sounds breathy, singing in an undertone in the verses, which is⊠S-E-X-Y đ. Even so, the songwriting thrives off of sexual innuendo rather than explicitly crossing any lines. This use of suggestiveness makesâHellriderâ hella potent. The centerpiece is the catchy, tuneful chorus. Here, the edgy artist is more dynamic: Â
âI can tell you want me, babyÂ
From the way that you look at meÂ
I drive you crazyÂ
Thereâs no way to explain itÂ
So, letâs rideÂ
Down the rings of hell tonight.â Â
Yaasss, king â âCome and fuel my fire,â you addicting, fella you! Getting a bit nerdy, how about the use of that raised sixth during the bridge section? A dose of Dorian mode is just what the doctor ordered in a pop cut, right? Right! All told, Nicholas Dante proves himself to be fierce AF on âHellriderâ.Â

11. Joji, âNIGHT RIDERâ
SMITHEREENSÂ // 88rising / Warner // 2015
âBaby, can you say something? Wanna feel sensation / Promise you Iâll never get numb, I’m too precious.â Side B of SMITHEREENS, the brief, 24-minute, 2022 album by Joji, features just four tracks, all of which clock in under two-and-a-half minutes. The albumâs sixth track, âNIGHT RIDERâ, is sleek and rhythmic. Joji asserts in one of the trackâs most memorable lines, âIâm too preciousâ in a refrain that follows the sole verse. It precedes and proceeds the chorus (âBurning forever and ever, fully blazing / I donât remember no better days / You know Iâm waiting just whenever shitâs whateverâ). Joji reflects on protecting his feelings and not allowing himself to be hurt again. The longing for a past relationship lingers on. Think of âNight Riderâ as being a bite-sized bop â itâs here one minute and gone the next.

12. Bob Dylan, âBlack Riderâ
Rough and Rowdy Ways // Columbia // 2020Â
âBlack rider, black rider, all dressed in black / Iâm walking away, you try to make me look backâŠâ The chilling, dark, enigmatic, minor-keyed âBlack Riderâ has a strong argument for the best song from Rough and Rowdy Ways, the 39th studio album by the iconic singer/songwriter, Bob Dylan. âBlack Riderâ ranked among the best songs of 2020. Even if the lyrics werenât potent and Dylan had âfallen offâ his storytelling game, the music alone would earn this record accolades. The production is spare, allowing Bob to be the focal point, yet the harmonic progression â the chords â are gorgeous. Of course, itâs Dylan, a lyrical master, so it only requires one lyric to confirm the elite nature: âBlack rider, black rider, hold it right there,â he sings on the fifth and final verse, âThe size of your cock will get you nowhere.â How awesome is that? âBlack Riderâ is subject to interpretation, including references to mortality â perhaps Dylanâs own â and possibly, more subtly, politics.   Â
âMaybe Iâll take the high moral groundÂ
Some enchanted evening Iâll sing you a songÂ
Black rider, black rider, youâve been on the job too long.âÂ

13. Mary J. Blige, âWe Ride (I See the Future)â
Reflections â A Retrospective // Geffen // 2006
âJust canât help it, I love my hun / All that I need and all that I want.â Back in 2006, when âWe Ride (I See The Future)â arrived, Mary J. Blige was happily married. The single, from her greatest hits compilation, Reflections â A Retrospective, speaks about looking forward to growing stronger as a couple. In the chorus, Blige asserts, âFrom the day to the night / We ride, we ride, we ride /⊠I see the future, baby / You and I, better with time.â Sadly, her future with husband Kendu Isaacs ended in 2018 after 15 years of marriage, but it doesnât take away from the bright, uplifting nature of the song. MJB penned âWe Rideâ alongside Bryan-Michael Cox, Johnta Austin, and Kendrick Dean. Cox and Dean produced it. The smooth piano and sophisticated contemporary R&B vibes catch the ear.Â
The star of the show is Mary J. Blige. She is authentic, dynamic, expressive, and heartfelt in her performance. She captures a happiness she didnât believe she would ever find. âNow ladies if you got a man and he treat you real good / Ainât you gonâ flex every chance that you get,â she sings in the first verse, adding, âNow ainât you gonna love him just like you should? / Especially when you never thought you would.â In the second verse, she addresses the men: âNow fellas if you got a girl and she treat you right / Ainât you gonna spend every dollar, every cent? /⊠Especially when sheâs reppinâ you for life.â Aww! Blige amplifies the feels in the bridge when she asserts, âLove is a mountain and weâre at the top.â Sadly, not everybody experiences the love that Blige sings about in âWe Ride (I See The Future)â. Some experience it for a while but the âhoneymoonâ ends. Regardless, just hearing about a love like this makes you want it. It drives you to search and fight for something so substantial.Â
