1. Cigarettes After Sex, “Baby Blue Movie”

X’s // Spanish Prayers / Partisan // 2024

Cigarettes After Sex, X's [📷: Spanish Prayers / Partisan]“Baby blue movie with always4tuesdays / And her love, Sarah, at Brooklyn House Hotel.” Greg Gonzalez and Cigarettes After Sex… where are you going with “Baby Blue Movie”? “Don’t you understand / Don’t you know the love that you wants all the love that you needed…” Hmm, thought-provoking.  The third single and seventh track from X’s is unique. Not straightforward, Gonzalez commented to The Line of Best Fit that the song’s story “is intentionally meant to be more cryptic storytelling wise than the lyrics I usually write.” I concur. First things first, a baby blue movie is softcore porn. There are two verses brief verses written similarly.  Notably, the pre-chorus and chorus feature more lyrics than the verses, which speaks to the nontraditional structure of “Baby Blue Movie.” Both the pre-chorus and chorus are memorable and tuneful. Gonzalez sings superbly from start to finish.  His cool, calm, and collected voice remains tried and true.  Also, the instrumental – the sound of the record – is marvelous.  Clocking in at over four minutes, “Baby Blue Movie” is so hypnotic and mesmerizing that it’s finished before you know it.  Even if it takes some decoding and deciphering, Cigarettes After Sex released another intriguing, worthwhile song.

2. ØZI & Sunset Rollercoaster, “SEX TAPE”

“SEX TAPE” // OZMD MUSIC COMPANY LIMITED // 2024

ØZI & Sunset Rollercoaster, SEX TAPE [📷: OZMD MUSIC COMPANY LIMITED]“So, we should make a sex tape (sex tape) / Let’s make a sex tape (sex tape).” Oh my, ØZI (Stefan Chen Yi-fan) 🥵! When it comes to filming it, to each their own.  However, as handsome and talented as the Taiwanese American musician is, who would resist participating in that “SEX TAPE”? His voice is sublime – buttery smooth.  He sings in English and Mandarin which is impressive.  After proposing this sex tape, he adds in the crowning achievement, the chorus, “Watch you fuck me like a Japanese pornstar / Look to the camera, girl / You a natural, baby.” Holy she-it 🥵! Oh, and for good measure, later, he urges her to “hold that pose for the money shot.”

ØZI isn’t the only star on this sex song. He collaborates with the Taiwanese collective, Sunset Rollercoaster.  Sunset Rollercoaster is comprised of Tseng Kuo-Hung (guitar), Chen Hung-Li (bass), Wang Shao-Hsuan (synthesizer), Tsun-Lung Lo (drums), and Huang Hao Ting (saxophone). The band plays a key role in the sound of “SEX TAPE.” Their instrumental contributions craft a satisfying blend of pop, contemporary R&B, Mandopop, hip-hop, and jazz.  The musicianship is as sexy as the vocals and lyrics sung by ØZI.  The best instrumental feature is the saxophone. Hao Ting’s soloing is expressive – quite radiant.  Nothing screams sex like a saxophone, right? Right! A naughty song, “SEX TAPE” by ØZI and Sunset Rollercoaster is irresistible.

3. Megan Thee Stallion, “Movie” (Ft. Lil Durk)

Good News // 1501 Certified Ent. LLC / 300 Entertainment // 2020

Megan Thee Stallion, Good News [📷: 1501 Certified Ent. LLC / 300 Entertainment]“Take a shot, then turn up on his shit, give me that D’USSÉ dick / ‘42, pour Azul, make me do some crazy shit.” Grammy-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion gets dirty on “Movie” featuring Lil Durk. The Tay Keith-produced track marks one of the filthiest moments from her 2020 debut album, Good News.  “Eat my coochie, let’s make a moviе, nigga / I’m talkin’ ASMR, let me hear you chew it, nigga,” Meg asserts, continuing, “The only L I hold got that V right there next to it / My pussy tight, but I might let him add some stretch to it, ah.” Holy fucking moly! As the title suggests, and the lyrics confirm, a ‘flick’ is involved, and it is NC-17.  Do I need to emphasize just how freaky and nasty she gets? That’s even before Lil Durk adds to this strip club anthem, encouraging her to “Shake that booty, bitch.” In the second verse, he emphasizes ‘bouncing’ and ‘shaking’: “Bounce your booty, uh, uh, make a movie, bitch / Shake your boobies, uh, I’m like. groupie bitch.” Megan, of course, isn’t content with just one verse.  She gets a third for good measure, and she’s one bad bitch:

“Thinking you player, she gon’ air you out when she mad, hmm (Spazz, nigga)

And I don’t kiss you ‘cause I know you eating ass, yeah (Ah, ah, ah)

You getting beside yourself, find yourself ‘fore I make you hide yourself

Who the fuck pumpin’ these bitches? Bitches is ass just like they hydrogel.”

4. ScHoolboy Q, “Movie” (Ft. Az Chike)

BLUE LIPS // Interscope // 2024

ScHoolboy Q, BLUE LIPS [📷: Interscope]According to ScHoolboy Q: “I got hoes… I got bricks /… I got guns… I got licks / I gotta get back on a bitch.” Noted. Those lyrics appear in the intro of  “Movie,” the seventh track from BLUE LIPS. The “Movie” is brief, running under two minutes in duration.  It’s enough for J.LBS, LowTheGreat, Mike Hector, and Tae Beast to ‘put in work’ in the production. “Movie” samples “Space Walk” by Wood, Brass & Steel. Nearly 40 seconds in, there’s a beat switch, which makes way for featured guest rapper, Az Chike. Az Chike is aggressive from the jump: “Look, bitch, put me in the film / You know these niggas all cap like brims (All cap) /… Let this bitch touch on my third limb.” Third limb as in the third leg aka penis. Besides encouraging stimulation, and bragging about his bitches, he touts his drip and threatens violence (“I got diamonds… I got thugs… / I got a thick bitch dancin’ in the club”). Q and Az Chike make quite the movie.

5. Lizzy McAlpine, “Movie Star”

Older // Indigo Blue, LLC / RCA // 2024

Lizzy McAlpine, Older [📷: Indigo Blue, LLC / RCA]“I’m special, he sees me / He chose me out of everyone.” Being seen is so important, Lizzy McAlpine (Elizabeth McAlpine).  It makes you feel loved 🥰. McAlpine continues singing in the first verse of “Movie Star,” “I feel like a movie star in the leading role / Famous to someone.” Oh, what a feeling! McAlpine delivers chill and easygoing vocals, She never does too much. “Movie Star” is the fourth track from Older, the third studio album by McAlpine. She penned “Movie Star” with Olivia Barton. She produced it with Ryan Lerman and Mason Stoops. Brief, running just over a minute and a half, that’s ample time for Lizzy to paint a picture of movie stardom… In the chorus, she sings, “Wish someone would stop me but they never will.” Stop her from what – that is the question! From there, the second verse gets deeper and more reflective.  The lyrics are simple yet simultaneously complex. Additional notes about this brief, musical excellence, there’s a fabulous vocal arrangement with layers and harmonies.  Also, the backdrop is simple yet potent.  The guitar carries the weight early. Piano joins the mix adding warmth while maintaining subtlety. Lizzy McAlpine, you’re not a movie star – you’re a pop star… well, ‘alternative’ pop star…

6. Jack Harlow, “Movie Star” (Ft. Pharrell Williams)

Come Home the Kids Miss You // Generation Now / Atlantic // 2022

Jack Harlow, Come Home the Kids Miss You [📷: Generation Now / Atlantic]You know when that four count starts off a track it’s the production work of the one-and-only Pharrell Williams. In the Jack Harlow joint, “Movie Star,” it’s not only Pharrell putting in work behind the boards.  Harlow, Angel López, and Rogét Chahayed produced with Williams. The sound of “Movie Star” is interesting with its odd, spacy backdrop and a surprising beat switch.  The lucky seventh track from Come Home the Kids Miss You lacks substance.  The Grammy-nominated rapper admits in the first verse, “I’m done fakin’ humble, actin’ like I ain’t conceited / ‘Cause, bitch, I am conceited.” The big takeaway is that he’s “with a movie star,” citing “young Cameron Diaz” and “young Angelina.” Pharrell is also a featured artist, lending those high-pitched vocals in the chorus. We get another verse of Jack, where he awkwardly lands the lyric, “But I’m just so inspired by the way you wear that thong / You know I like to dictate things, Kim Jong.” Yikes!  Then there’s that beat switch following the second chorus, initiated by the lyrical question, “Mmm, but do it jiggle though? I mean, I get the concept that it’s bigger though.” “Movie Star” is, indeed, something else.

7. Kacey Musgraves, “If this was a movie..”

star-crossed // UMG Recordings, Inc. / MCA Nashville // 2021

Kacey Musgraves, Star-Crossed [📷: UMG Recordings, Inc.]On star-crossed, the fourth studio album by Grammy-winning country musician Kacey Musgraves, she tackles the d-word: DIVORCE. Musgraves reminisces on the good times, the bad times, and problems, and ultimately, finds the strength to soldier on.  In the movie-centered track, “If this was a movie..,” Musgraves is in full-on escapism mode.  “If this was a movie..” reflects on having a fairytale ending without heartbreak and pain.  “If this was a movie / Love would be enough,” she sings in the second verse, continuing, “To save us from the darkness that’s inside both of us / And we’d get away and we’d be okay.” Unfortunately, life and love don’t work that way. Don’t we all wish they did?

8. Avenoir, “MOVIE

NOIRE // LISTEN TO THE KIDS // 2023

Avenoir, Noire [📷: LISTEN TO THE KIDS]“Girl, I can be your mans, tonight / I can keep it casual / Or, I can show you things that you should know / Girl, let me take control.” “MOVIE” by Canadian R&B singer/songwriter Avenoir (Caleb Odidi) is a prime example of a sex song.  Sensual, sensual, SENSUAL! “MOVIE” is the sixth track off NOIRE (EP) released in December 2023.  Written by Odidi, he produced it with YMX Beats, Verse, and Tee.  The “MOVIE” is brief but potent – it clocks in under three minutes. That is enough time for Avenoir to ‘get it in.’  In this sleekly produced joint, he asserts his dominance. He wants to take the lead.  With those buttery smooth vocals, it’s easy to become enamored:

“We can make a movie

I’ll direct you, oh,

Just follow my direction now

Love in the dark

We don’t gotta stop

We both don’t gotta talk.”

Ooh-wee 🥵 😮‍💨! Besides his encouraging, sexy lyrics and vocals, tuneful melodies help make “MOVIE” a surefire vibe. Better yet, crucial for any sex playlist.

9. Conan Gray, “Movies”

Superache // Republic // 2022

Conan Gray, Superache [📷: Republic]“Movies, movies / I want a love like the movies.” Indeed, Conan Gray. Gray didn’t disappoint on his sophomore album, Superache.  The LP has plenty of standouts and zero duds. One of the best songs from Superache commences the album.  That is the ‘film-tacular’ “Movies” where Conan does a magnificent job conveying starry-eyed infatuation.  He delivers beautiful, expressive vocals that make you buy what he’s selling about love.  “Movies” features lovely accompaniment by acoustic guitar early on, allowing Gray’s voice to be the focal point. More instrumentation arrives during the second verse –  a natural progression.  Here, Gray is more assertive, integrating grit paralleling his emotions.  During the crowning achievement, the chorus, the vocal layering, and harmonization are splendid. I adore Gray’s falsetto. “Movies” is a fantastic, cinematic opener from an album that deserved far more love.

10. BTS, “Film Out”

BTS, The Best // Universal Music LLC // 2021

BTS, BTS, The Best [📷: Universal Music LLC]In 2021, K-pop superstars BTS Jung Kook, Jimin, V, RM, Jin, SUGA, and, j-hope – released the single, “Film Out”. The ballad, which commenced BTS, The Best, was performed in Japanese. The vocals are beautiful, while the production by back number and UTA is on-point.  Piano fuels the fire during the first verse and chorus.  Jung Kook and Jimin perform the first verse. Jung Kook and V take on the chorus. By the post-chorus, performed by all in English (“Oh-oh / La-la-la, la-la-la”), “Film out” grows more rhythm and the backdrop expands. This full expansion is solidified in the second verse which adds drum programming.  The appearance of RM contrasts with his melodic rap. Where do SUGA and j-hop come in? The third verse, with Jung Kook joining them in the final line.  With tradeoffs with the chorus, different BTS members perform or collaborate.  There’s also a bridge and outro. “Film Out” gave the boy band another surefire hit.

11. Travis Scott, “NC-17” (Ft. 21 Savage)

ASTROWORLD // Epic // 2018

Travis Scott, ASTROWORLD [📷: Epic]“Bust it down, she talkin’ body language (It’s lit) / Eating that ‘punane’, got my bangs wet (eat it up).” Oh my… Among the best and most interesting rap albums of 2018 was ASTROWORLD by Travis Scott.  The Houston rapper finally had his ‘surefire’ moment artistically.  Among the most elite cuts is a smooth, club joint, “NC-17”. “NC-17” is sexually charged to the nth degree, keeping in line with the film rating. Case in point – the chorus:

“Me and my bitch, I swear we like the same sex

Fuck with all my chains on, let’s have chain sex

Hangin’ with the gang, you get your fangs wet

Wanna kick with the gang, you gotta bang it.”

Grammy winner 21 Savage guests in the second verse, the perfect match for this laid-back, minor-key banger.  In true fuckboy fashion, Savage asserts early on, “Three main bitches thinkin’ they my main bitch / Hit the club and swap the hoes I came with.” NC-17 indeed!

12. Jon Bellion, “80’s Films”

The Human Condition // Capitol // 2016

Jon Bellion, The Human Condition [📷 : Capitol]“We just need a night like this / Take me back to 9th grade / Take me back to 9th grade shit.” Is a breakdown necessary? In this lyric from “80’s Films,” the second track from his album, Human Condition, alternative pop singer, songwriter, and producer Jon Bellion goes back to his high school days and what ‘love’ felt like back then. He’s on that 9th-grade shit! Ah, the nostalgia! “80’s Films” has its fair share of memorable lyrics. Among the most memorable hail from the chorus: “Just like the 80s films / We’ll hook up in my backseat and let my best friend drive.” Sex in the backseat? Hot and risky 🥵 😈 ! Also, it shouldn’t be surprising that Bellion references specific 80’s films like The Breakfast Club and Back To The Future. Also, keeping it 80s, he mentions the one-and-only Cyndi Lauper: “I can’t let go and your lips feel retro / You’re my Breakfast Club / You’re my song from Cyndi Lauper…/ Take me back into the future.”  “80’s Films” was written by Bellion, Mark Williams, and the late busbee.  He produced it with Williams, busbee, and Ross Golan.

13. Hoodie Allen, “Movie”

People Keep Talking // Hoodie Allen // 2014

Hoodie Allen, People Keep Talking [📷: Hoodie Allen LLC]In 2014, East Coast, pop-rapper Hoodie Allen released his full-length debut, People Keep Talking.  Throughout the 14-track affair, he spits about sex, swag, and pop culture.  Even when his rhymes are simple-minded, they’re sharp and effective. One of the highlights from People Keep Talking is “Movie.” The third track from the LP is led by its irresistible, pop chorus:

“Hey girl, well let’s make a movie

You can be my leading lady beauty

Grab your camera, don’t be shy…

We can make this world into our movie.”

The question is, what type of movie is Hoodie Allen going to make 😈? Fittingly, “Movie” references actors, actresses, movies, and musicians. Hoodie mentions Julia Roberts, Matthew McConaughey, and George Clooney to name a few. He references films like Pretty Women, Clueless, Casablanca, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  Musically, Madonna and Clipse get nods. But, he also has to give some love to his penis 🍆.  One of the best, most playful, and clever lyrics to beat: “I got bad bitches on my dick, clips homie I’m grinding.” See that badass Clipse reference? The movies in the hands of Hoodie Allen are electrifying.
