GOOD MORNING! Prepare to be lifted up ⏠folks! All positive â vibes and no negative â energy whatsoever! No matter what âhas you downâđ», what you are going through, just know that âtoday is the giftâ đ and tomorrow is a brand-new day đ chocked-full of opportunity. Yes, COVID-19 has derailed damn-near everything (if youâre reading this 2020) đĄ but weâve still got to count our blessings and seize the day đ . Therefore, I unleash, 11 SONGS SERVING UP GREETINGS & GOOD MORNING!Â
If you checked out Good MorningâŠ5ive Songs No. 13, well, you got a preview of nearly half of the list! But guess what? We have six additional songs totally worth checking out, courtesy of Alex Aiono, The Beatles, EDEN, Max Frost, Mak Sauce, and TOKYOâS REVENGE. So, without any further BS intro extending the length of this playlist, here are 11 SONGS SERVING UP GREETINGS & GOOD MORNING!!!
1. Alex Aiono, âGood Morningâ
The Gospel at 23 âą Alex Aiono âą 2020Â
âLast night was shit / My phone was dark / The worldâs a messâŠâ Sigh, sounds like things arenât exactly optimal for pop musician Alex Aiono. But, guess what? Plot Twist! Despite the problems plaguing him (or his character) on âGood Morningâ â âPhone call from mom / Dad lost his job / Text from my ex / Sheâs moving onâ â heâs not having a pity party. Instead, he thinks positively and looks at each new morning as a brand-new, fresh opportunity.
After laying out the tribulations on the highlight from The Gospel at 23, he delivers exuberant, hopeful, soulful, gospel-infused vocals. The chorus is where his bread is buttered, supported by gorgeous, grand choral background vocals:
âSo, get up Make some coffee, make some love Take a shower, do whatever Just get up... Today is all we got Tomorrow might not come So, get up Get up Good morning.â
âGood Morningâ is a grand way to commence The Gospel at 23 â tone setter indeed!
2. Max Frost, âGood Morningâ
Gold Rush âą Atlantic âąÂ 2018
âBaby, itâs a brand-new day / Ainât no clouds hanging over me / Something doesnât feel the same / The rest of my life gonna start today / Good morning.â Mark my words, there is no way you can listen to âGood Morningâ by Max Frost and not feel the positive vibes. For the alternative musician, whatever happened previously he is putting TF behind him. Honestly, on Frostâs spirit on this standout from his 2018 album, Gold Rush, is exactly the way we should approach life in the face of adversity.
Besides singing about âWaking up, shaking yesterdayâs bluesâ and moving ahead with good thoughts, Frost has electrifying production behind him. Tanner âAugie Rayâ Underwood provides the singer with a backdrop that fuses gospel, pop, soul, and swagger masterfully. Frost takes it and runs with it, showcasing his superb vocal capabilities and just as impressive, a big personality. The âGood Morningâ only lasts a little more than two-and-a-half-minutes, but the results are lit AF. If youâre feeling down in the dumps, Max Frost will gladly elevate your spirit with âGood Morning.â
3. Nikky Blonsky, âGood Morning Baltimoreâ
Hairspray (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) âą New Line Productions / Warner âą 2007
âGood morning Baltimore / Every dayâs like an open door / Every night is a fantasy / Every soundâs like a symphony.â âGood Morning Baltimoreâ is the big â and I do mean BIG âopening number from the Broadway musical (and film), Hairspray. Itâs famously performed by the colorful protagonist, Tracy Turnblad, who has one of the coolest last names ever.  A number of actresses have portrayed Turnblad, including Rikki Lake (1988 film), Nikki Blonsky (2007 film), and Maddie Baillioo (Hairspray Live!).
Essentially, âGood Morning Baltimoreâ sets the tone of Hairspray. Tracy imagines herself as the star, despite the fact that she doesnât look the part. Regardless of the fact she isnât the stereotypical, skinny, âperfectâ female lead, she knows âevery step⊠every songâŠâ and ultimately, âknows thereâs a place I belong.â Honestly, we should all aspire to be Tracy Turnblad â at least I think so!
4. TOKYOâS REVENGE, âGOODMORNINGTOKYO!â
MDNGHT (SIDE B) âąÂ Blac Noize! Recordings âą 2019
Up until this point, thereâs been a lot of positivity when it comes to GOOD MORNING songs. Well, TOKYOâS REVENGE isnât so much negative per se on âGOODMORNINGTOKYO!â as he is, um, confident. It doesnât take long for us to hear references to his dick, bitches, and âRed lean look like Clifford.â What Iâm saying is, if you came into âGOODMORNINGTOKYO!â looking to be uplifted, well, you might be slightly disappointed, or at least, off-put.
Nonetheless, TOKYOâS REVENGE keeps it 100, meaning that heâs tough throughout. Over the course of two-and-a-half minutes, we get some stuff from ole boy! We get violence: âIâll beat your ass; I donât care if itâs dark or not.â We get SEX: âI blew up like a missile, huh / She blew my dick just like a whistle, huh.â And of course, we get drip: âSuicide door on my whip, slit my wrist likeâŠâ While thereâs no gospel or powerhouse vocals powering âGOODMORNINGTOKYO!â, itâs a banger.
5. Mak Sauce, âGood Morningâ
âGood Morningâ âąÂ Def Jam âą 2019
âToday is a wonderful day.â From one banger to another! TOKYOâS REVENGE gave us a different perspective of the greeting good morning (âGOODMORNINGTOKYO!â), and the same can be said of Mak Sauce. At least Sauce is traditional on the aforementioned intro of his hit, âGood Morningâ â positive vibes! Of course, those positive vibes donât last â âNothing Lasts Foreverâ.  But hey, we get a banger out of it right? Good flow, lit, minimalist production, catchy chorus.
âAh, good morning Today is a wonderful day A pussy boy better not play Iâm bringing them racks out the bank Put ten racks on top of your head Next ten minutes, your ass get sprayed Today Today.âÂ
We get a little bit of everything from Mak Sauce, as you might expect. Itâs no surprise that the drip âdropsâ early, specifically a drop-top. He doesnât specify if itâs a foreign mind you, but we can assume so based on rap clichĂ©s. Anyways, after the convertible is mentioned, Mak gets violent asserting, âTalking all that talk so his ass got shot down / He ainât know we was gonâ pop out.â Charming. It gets worse of course, as he spends the rest of his verse discussing it, well â until he moves to his victimâs âbitch.â âYou was at work, I was fucking your bitch from the back…â Shocking, said no one ever. On the second verse, we get more of the same, including some substances thrown in with violence and sex. âGood Morningâ indeed!
6. Norah Jones, âGood Morningâ
âŠLittle Broken Hearts âą Blue Note âą 2012
âIâm folding my hand, hand / Iâm folding my hand, my handâŠâ âGood Morningâ serves as the opener on Norah Jonesâ 2012 album, âŠLittle Broken Hearts. The record is written alongside Brian Burton, best known as Danger Mouse. âGood Morningâ commences with minimalistic piano lines and guitar accompaniment.
As expected, Norah Jones serves up nice, lazy, nuanced vocals. The restrained nature is definitely a selling point. More electronic instruments enter in adding to the soundscape â typical of what we expect from a Danger Mouse produced number. One of the biggest selling points is the full fruition of strings by the end of the record.  Does âGood Morningâ by Norah Jones need any further explanation? Methinks not.
7. Bleachers, âGoodmorningâ
Gone Now âą RCA âąÂ 2017Â
âGoodmorningâ appears as the second track on Gone Now, the sophomore album by Bleachers (Jack Antonoff). Within the context of Gone Now, it should be noted that âGoodmorningâ shares a connection with the previous song, âDream of Mickey Mantle,â lyrically (âWoke up, Iâm in the in-between honey / One foot out and I know the weight is comingâ). In regard to its production and sound, âGoodmorningâ is a stellar track, thanks particularly to the gospel-tinged piano. Also, Jack Antonoff sings well; quite expressively.
âBecause I lied to you (I lied to you) / I lied to your face in the summer (your face in the summer) / You had long hair then (you had long hair then) / (Iâm coming back from the dead).â Lyrically and thematically, you could argue âGoodmorningâ is a bit of a tough follow. Antonoff provides some clarity about what âGoodmorningâ is about (see the tweet):
woke up, i'm in the in-between honey đŽ

The lyrics have poetic qualities, even if deciphering them suitably is arduous. The music is what the listener is most apt to latch onto. Although âGoodmorningâ is somewhat quirky and off-putting, itâs unique â the exemplification of an alternative cut.
8. Kanye West, âGood Morningâ
Graduation âą Roc-A-Fella âą 2007
âI guess, this is my dissertation / Homie, this shit is basic, welcome to Graduation / Good morning!â âGood Morning,â as the lyrics suggest, is the welcoming opener from Graduation, the third studio album by Kanye West. Worth noting, Graduation marked Westâs third straight album nominated for the highly coveted Grammy for Album of Year. Him (and Amy Winehouse) would shockingly lose to Herbie Hancock (River: The Joni Letters).
Anyways, âGood Morningâ is produced by West, and famously samples Elton Johnâs classic, âSomeone Saved My Life Tonightâ. Thereâs also a Jay-Z sample, as well as West interpolating himself. Throughout, West makes references to the college themes of his first three albums, representing a different sort of âvaledictorianâ by all means. Perhaps thatâs an understatement.
âGood morning, look at the valedictorian Scared of the future while I hop in the DeLorean Scared to face the world, complacent career student Some people graduate, but be still stupid.â
9. EDEN, âgood morningâ
no future âą Astralwerks âą 2020
âFelt like waking up in a new place / That stole the dark from the night / Shone a new way⊠/ But I can feel your heartbeat risingâŠâ Clearly, EDEN (Jonathon Ng) was seeking something new â a change of pace if you will â on âgood morning.â Apparently, that âchange of pace âcame out of the blue.â âGood morningâ commences his quietly released 2020 sophomore album, no future. For many of us, âmorningâ marks an escape from what ailed us on yesterday. Yes, the problems still remain, but a new day â a âgood morningâ â can be just what the doctor ordered.
Typical of EDEN, heâs totally in his feelings â wrapped in ample emotion. The grandiose music reflects every struggle, fear, as well as the beautiful, promising, âgood morning.â Likewise, his expressive, nuanced vocals reflect the same. Heâs had his fair share of adversity, but there is indeed a future, which happens each and every day, beginning with the morning.
10. Diddy â Dirty Money, âHello Good Morningâ
Ft. T.I.
Last Train to Paris âą Bad Boy / Interscope âąÂ 2010
âHello, good morning / Hello, good morning / Hello, good eveninâ / You blow, you fiendinâ.â Sigh, when âHello Good Morningâ arrived ahead of Last Train to Paris by Diddy â Dirty Money back in 2010, I had mixed feelings. This was an utterly simple, uncomplicated joint â at least the âpre-hook.â That said, after repeated listens, thereâs definitely an infectious, irresistibleness.
Also, worth mentioning, âHello Good Morningâ features some confident rhymes from T.I. on the first verse. There are also some silly but enjoyable rhymes by Diddy on the second verse (âYo baby momma âCry for Meâ like Jodeciâ), not to mention the sung portions by Dirty Money. Itâs a hit all in all, and definitely one of the best moments from Last Train to Paris.
11. The Beatles, âGood Morning Good Morningâ
Sgt. Pepperâs Lonely Hearts Club Band âą Universal Music Group âą 2015
We conclude 11 SONGS SERVING UP GREETINGS & GOOD MORNING with a classic courtesy of The Beatles. Just say the name âThe Beatlesâ and you know that đ© is iconic. In this case, we examine âGood Morning Good Morningâ from the 1967 LP, Sgt. Pepperâs Lonely Hearts Club Band. Where morning greetings are positive more often than not on this list, things arenât all rosy for John Lennon and company in this particular instance.
How do we know itâs not all happy go lucky for Johnny boy? âNothing to do to save his life, call his wife in / Nothing to say but what a day, howâs your boy been?â he sings on the first verse. He goes on later, on the first bridge to say, âEverybody knows thereâs nothing doing / Everything is closed, itâs like a ruin / Everyone you see s half asleep / And youâre on your own, youâre in the street.â  The big takeaway is that the âgood morningâ â life itself, each and every day â is an absolute bore. Itâs not the most optimistic way to conclude the list, but itâs a prime example of being stuck in a rut without an escape.
What would you do if you were John? Pave a pathway to move beyond boredom and mundaneness. Easier said than done, of course.
