1. Keiynan Lonsdale, “Come Papi”

🎵Come Papi” • 🏷 Worboys Place Entertainment • 🗓 2023

Keiynan Lonsdale, Come Papi [📷: Worboys Place Entertainment]Five words: “Come papi play with me.” It’s no secret, actor/singer Keiynan Lonsdale is easy on the eyes.  Making him even sexier is his music, particularly a sexy, gay 🏳️‍🌈 song joint like “Come Papi”. From the onset, the vibe is everything. The tropical groove marks one of the best-selling points of this pop joint.  Of course, the calm, cool, and collected vocals by Lonsdale up the ante.  His chill approach, well, it totally sends me… sends the listeners… “I need bed kisses and night moaning…” The best sections of “Come Papi” are the chorus sections.  Beginning with the pre-choruses, he paints a sweet, sensual picture of love.  “Even though there’s danger / We feeling so safe here,” he sings, adding, “Wishing we were naked / So close we can taste it.” Ooh-wee! Of course, the chorus itself is the crème de la crème:

“Come papi play with me

Come papi play for me

I can show you the masterpiece

Show you the masterpiece

They say it’s heavenly

No need to ever leave this love.”

His passion grows on the outro where he digs in more vocally. The love, the sex, the heat, it’s on fire 🔥! Making things even hotter? “Come Papi” gets a sexy music video. Mm Papi!

2. Sexyy Red, “Bow Bow Bow (F My Baby Dad)”

💿 Hood Hottest Princess (Deluxe) • 🏷 Open Shift / gamma. • 📅 2023

Sexyy Red, Hood Hottest Princess (Deluxe) [📷: Open Shift / gamma.]“Fuck my baby dad, fuck my baby dad, fuck my baby dad.” Sexyy Red is one of a kind, PERIOD.  In the intro of “Bow Bow Bow (F My Baby Dad),” the rapper makes it crystal clear what she thinks of her baby daddy. She adds, over the minor-key, malicious production by Tay Keith and DJ Meech, “I’m a fine-ass bitch, I ain’t in the house sad.” That occurs prior to those marvelous sound effects on the chorus: “(Bow, bow, bow, bow, bow) That’s that booty meat / (Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay) Look at them booty cheeks.” Word. Beyond the intro and the chorus, Sexyy Red drops plenty of raw, unapologetic bars, most which involve her being a badass, fine-ass bitch. “My mama got the kids, I’m gettin’ out this house,” she spits, “All in the club bouncin’ ass, showin’ out.” So, essentially, this dad song is less about daddy, and more about mommy. Noted! “My nigga actin’ up, so you know I’m finna pop it.”

3. Drake, “Papi’s Home”

💿 Certified Lover Boy 🏷 OVO / Republic • 📅 2021

Drake, Certified Lover Boy [📷: OVO / Republic]“Niggas know they need to stop / I’m standing at the top, that’s how I know you never seen the top.” Woo! “Papi’s Home” arrives as the second track from Certified Lover Boy, the 2021 studio album by Canadian rapper/singer, Drake. The Grammy-winning musician does wonders with a sample fueling the fire.  In the case of “Papi’s Home,” it’s anchored by a sample courtesy of Montell Jordan: “Daddy’s Home”.  While “Papi’s Home” is relatively mellow, like many Drake songs, he ‘packs some punch’ with his assertive, confident, unpitched rhymes: “Rap niggas doing weak features for a pop artist ‘cause they popped down / Used to wanna throw the Roc up, niggas know how I rock now.” Daddy, or Papi, in the context of “Papi’s Home” refers to… drum roll, please… Drake, of course!

4. St. Vincent, “Daddy’s Home”

💿 Daddy’s home 🏷 Loma Vista • 📅 2021

St. Vincent, Daddy's Home [📷: Loma Vista]“I signed autographs in the visitation room / Waitin’ for you the last time, inmate 502.” Inmate? So, he’s been incarcerated, St. Vincent (Annie Clark)? “Daddy’s Home” marks one of the best moments of Daddy’s Home, the 2021 album by the Grammy-winning, alternative singer/songwriter. In the context of the album, “Daddy’s home” maintains ‘throwback vibes.’  It is lush, jazzy, relaxed, and sultry. This chill record references ‘Daddy’ returning home from prison (“Yeah, you did some time, well, I did some time, too”) … sort of.  While Clark’s daddy plays a role, and while he may be home, “Daddy’s Home” is more about how Clark has dealt with his absence and doesn’t need him in a paternal capacity at this point – that ship has sailed, essentially.  Musically, St. Vincent plays up cabaret vibes and brings mad personality and some eccentricity. “Daddy’s Home” = #WINNING.

5. Myylo, “Kissing on Your Dad”

💿 My EP Era is Over Now 🏷 Myylo • 🗓 2021

Myylo, My EP Era is Now Over [📷 : Myylo]“Came over to play Xbox / I didn’t think I’d meet a sexpot…” Oh snap! 🎙 Myylo lusts for daddy on the fantastic, absolutely laugh out loud hilarious 🎵 “Kissing on Your Dad”. Originally released in 2020, “Kissing on Your Dad” ends up on his 2021 EP, 💿 My EP Era is Over Now. “…He came upstairs from his man cave / I had to tell myself to behave.” He takes us on a flirtatious trip where, expectedly, we get a description of the hot dad making young Myylo feel some type of way – “And he’s so damn tall call him Megatron / Votes democrat with the mail-in.” Wow!  That said, can you blame him for being turned on? “I want to be the one he’s nailing” summed up quarantine horniness perfectly.

6. Ty Dolla $ign, “Zaddy”

💿 Campaign🏷 Atlantic • 📅 2016

Ty Dolla $ign, Campaign [📷: Atlantic]Ah, who doesn’t love a zaddy? Urban Dictionary provides a couple of satisfying definitions of the slang term, which boils down to a sexy man who spoils you and is great in the sack 😈. In 2016, the ever-versatile Ty Dolla $ign caught our attention with “Zaddy”, a single that appears on his mixtape, Campaign. “Zaddy” commences with spoken word phone call from a girl.  On the call, she’s telling him what she wants materialistically.  Dolla $ign, sings (and raps) about what he receives in return.  He gives her everything she wants.  And of course, he benefits from physical pleasure.  He asserts, “I eat it, I eat it, I beat it / I fuck her, she ask me why Dolla so nasty.” Ooh, wee, zaddy! In the chorus, he informs us, repeatedly, “She keep callin’ me zaddy,” before adding, “That lil baby got a fatty.” Ultimately, “Zaddy” is catchy as albeit. The concept and messaging are shallow, but undoubtedly infectious.

7. James Brown, “Papa Don’t Take No Mess”

💿 Hell 🏷 UMG Recordings, Inc. • 📅 1974

James Brown, Hell [📷: Universal / UMG Recordings, Inc.]The late, great funk icon, James Brown (1933 – 2006), makes one thing crystal clear: “Papa don’t, Papa don’t Papa don’t / Papa don’t take no mess!” Woo! “Papa Don’t Take No Mess” appears on Brown’s 1974 album, Hell – what a hell of a title, right? Right! In typical James Brown fashion, he oozes with personality as he talks about his dad.  He’s backed by groove that’s tight and F-U-N-K-Y by his stellar band. Those horns are lit! Essentially, this no. 31 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 is constructed in minimalistic fashion – looping, vamping, etc. Brown’s approach truly earned him the nickname as the godfather of soul.

The lyrics shouldn’t be written off “Papa Don’t Take No Mess” by any means. Perhaps the most memorable, colorful lyrics arrive in the fourth verse:

“Papa didn’t cuss

He didn’t raise a whole lotta fuss

But when we did wrong

Papa beat the hell out of us.”

Woo! However, besides moments like these, it’s the repetition, riffing, and showmanship that makes “Papa Don’t Take No Mess” the sugar honey iced tea. Hell, anytime James Brown says, “hit me!” it makes us gag (positively, mind you). More could be said about “Papa Don’t Take No Mess” but is there any need? Of course not! This unforgettable Brown / John Starks / Fred Wesley composed joint speaks for itself. HIT ME!

8. Jennifer Lopez, “I Luh Ya Papi” (Ft. French Montana)

💿 A.K.A. 🏷 Capitol • 📅 2014

Jennifer Lopez, A.K.A. [📷: Capitol]“I put it down for a brother like you / Give it to you right in the car, that’s you.” In the car, Jennifer Lopez? Ooh-la-la! Please, continue: “We can first give you some of this, that’s you / And you’re all out loving that J. Love, true.” ‘J. Lo’ or ‘J. Love’ – that is the question! Anyways, even with some sus lyrics, “I Luh Ya Papi” marked a sensational single from her 2014 album, A.K.A.. Guess how deep Lopez goes in the chorus? “I luh ya papi, I luh ya papi / I luh ya, luh ya, luh ya, luh ya papi.” WOO! Notably, in the third verse, J. Lo gets an assist from French Montana. Guess how he responds to the papi luh? “I love you, mami, I-I love you, mami / Baby, you the shit, I-I- love you mami.” “I Lu Ya Papi” is superbly produced, set in a major key, featuring a banging beat and picturesque synths. As entertaining as the song is, the biggest draw is the music video.  What made the music video stand out? It’s the MEN! The tables are turned.  The men are being objectified as opposed to the women! Even so, Lopez references her own sexy bod: “Got that hourglass for you, baby.”

9. Robin Thicke, “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy” (Ft. Nicki Minaj)

💿 Sex Therapy: The Experience🏷 Star Trak, LLC • 🗓 2009

Robin Thicke, Sex Therapy: The Experience [📷: Star Trak, LLC]“She shakin’ it for daddy (Yeah) / She shakin’ it for me / She liftin’ up her ass, and she drop it to the beat (Beat) / She shakin’ it so fast, for the cash (Ching-a-ling).” Ooh, wee! Long before blurring those lines, Grammy-nominated R&B singer/songwriter Robin Thicke unleashed “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy” on his 2009, sensually driven album, Sex Therapy: The Experience. On “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy,” Thicke tapped an up-and-coming Nicki Minaj for the assist, while producer Polow da Don provided him with a kick ass backdrop.  Minaj, who is crucial to the excellence of “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy,” performs the first and fourth verses, kicking some serious ass with her rhymes. In the first, not only is she “on that money shit,” she drops some clever sexed-up bars such as “Get da sloppy, toppy roger” and “‘Cause I ball, no testicles.” That doesn’t even include lines about being “Flyer than an eagle that’s balding,” following it up later with, “I stay balling, I don’t mean Spalding.” In the fourth verse, we get a Teenage Mutant Ninja turtle reference, and fittingly, “Stick shift the ding-a-ling, ball like Yao Ming-a-ling.” Robin also has his own share of fantastic moments.

Thicke is honest about his horniness in the second verse: “She got me jerkin’ in the back.” 🍆 💦 He clearly thinks with his D as he talks about how “She make that booty roll, when she comin’ down the pole.” Sure, he also talks about love, but there’s also lots of money being spent on her (“Shit, I could’ve bought a car”). Similarly, in the third verse, the focus is on ass. Throw in the booty shakin’ chorus and song title and it’s no surprise that this entertaining, sexy song lacks any semblance of depth or substance. Robin Thicke enjoys sex – that’s the big takeaway from “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy”.

10. Madonna, “Papa Don’t Preach”

💿True Blue • 🏷 Warner • 🗓 1986

Madonna, True Blue [📷: Warner]Last time I checked, Madonna was a democrat, or, at least, she’s supported democratic politicians for years.  We are well aware that the controversial pop icon wasn’t a fan of 45.   Why do I mention Madge’s political affiliation? Well, her 1986 hit, “Papa Don’t Preach”,played better with the GOP than democrats, at least at the time. Why? Pro-Life, baby!

“Papa, don’t preach, I’m in trouble, deep

Papa, don’t preach, I’ve been losing sleep

But I made up my mind, I’m

Keeping my baby, ooh

I’m gonna keep my baby.”

We have a teenage girl who’s become pregnant with her boyfriend.  Rather than have an abortion, she decides she’ll keep the child against the judgment of many folks in her life.  Does her father advise her to abort the child? That’s not clear, but what is clear is that Madonna doesn’t want her father to give her a sermon – she’s taking matters into her own hands.  Furthermore, her boyfriend is going to step up, or so Madonna sings in the second verse: “He says that he’s going to marry me / And we can raise a little family / Maybe we’ll be all right / It’s a sacrifice.” Teenage pregnancy is rarely without controversy. Furthermore, the decision to keep the baby is polarizing. Abortion advocates loathe it.  Pro-life peeps embrace it. Madonna, ultimately, didn’t take a stance.  Controversy sells, so, it’s no surprise this True Blue gem reached no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

11. The Winstons, “Color Him Father”

💿Color Him Father • 🏷 Metromedia • 📅 1969

The Winstons, Color Him Father [📷: Metromedia]“There’s a man at my house, he’s so big and strong / He goes to work each day, and he stays all day long.” That’s admirable.  Furthermore, “He comes home each night, looking tired and beat,” he never frowns, asking “How’s my child?” As these lyrics suggest, The Winstons deliver a special record that highlights how special a loving, dedicated father is on “Color Him Father” from their 1969 album of the same title. “I think I’ll color this man father / I think I’ll color him love.”  The chorus is incredibly memorable and more importantly, thoughtful and touching.   Making “Color Him Father” even more thoughtful is the fact that we learn this man who is ‘colored’ father isn’t the biological father! See Exhibit B, the second verse:

“Our real old man, he got killed in the war

And she knows she and seven kids couldn’t of gotten very far

She said she thought that she could never love again

And then there he stood with that big wide grin

He married my mother, and he took us in

And now we belong to the man with that big wide grin.”

Wow, the feels, the feels, the feels given off this top 10 hit (reached no. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100). Also, deservedly, The Winstons were nominated for a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.
