1. Alex Vaughn, “Demon Time – Remix” (with Ari Lennox)
💿 The Hurtbook (Voice Notes) • 🏷 LVRN • 🗓 2023
“Alone tonight / I’m alone tonight, I’m on demon time.” Hmm, what is this 🎵 “Demon Time” that 🎙 Alex Vaughn sings about? Well, it’s slang and the context is sexual. Urban Dictionary has some colorful takes, describing it as “Anytime of the night past 11 pm. A time of pure fuckery. When the fuck boys come out to play.” Woo! As for Complex, they devote an entire article to demon time, describing it as “late-night Instagram Live streams featuring a rotating cast of women… performing for hordes of thirsty viewers. Demon Time is the smiling purple devil emoji personified.” The point is, Alex Vaughn is being naughty, asserting towards the end of the first verse of this 💿 The Hurtbook (2022) standout, “… You still came through / ‘Cause you know it’s fire / And I blow your mind when /I’m on the mic / I’m your prototype.” Ooh wee! In the chorus, the talented singer adds, “Sex game is criminal / Take me like mental notes / Make me overflow / And wake me if the sheets get cold.” Day-ummm!
In the second verse, Vaughn is also looking for S-E-X. “So many positions” is not that innocent, with “So touch me like you missed it” confirming what Alex desires. Furthermore, she is confident AF. On 🎵 “Demon Time (Remix)”, which appears on 💿 The Hurtbook (Homegirl Pack) and 💿 The Hurtbook (Voice Notes), Vaughn enlists the services of 🎙 Ari Lennox who was made for this shee-it! “Appetite / Got an appetite for this jaguar,” Lennox sings in the third verse, adding, “Climb that tree tonight / Talking to some dudes, but I’m fuckin’ you.” It doesn’t stop there: “True crime when my legs are shakin’ / Suck the life out you to repay.” Gah-day-um! Besides superb vocals by Vaughn and Lennox, and the naughty theme and lyrics, 🎵 “Demon Time (Remix)” benefits from awesome production courtesy of 🎛 DJ Camper (shout out to the keys and that dusty groove). This record right here is a surefire, Midnight Heat 🕛 🔥 vibe!

2-3. Yeat, “Bad bënd / DëMON” & “Dëmon tied”
💿 AftërLyfe • 🏷 Field Trip Recordings / Geffen • 📅 2023
🎙 Yeat is always good for a banger, PERIOD! In 2023, he returned with 💿 AftërLyfe, continuing to churn out those bangers. Twice on the project, he showcases his demonic side 😈. First, it’s the 15th track, 🎵 “Bad bënd / DëMON,” where he raps, “I got demons on my mind, demons on my line (Line) / Every song I call him on my phone, I know he lyin’ (Everytime).” Okurrr! Prior to that, he speaks of this bad bend, which, unsurprisingly, involves “these pills, man, and this shit don’t stop (I’m on a bad bend).” Demonic indeed 😈!
Yeat remains unapologetic on the 21st track, 🎵 “Dëmon tied.” “Man, the devil been watching my ties, man, the devil been watching my eyes,” he asserts in the chorus. Damn… more like he’s being damned! He adds, “I just hope that I make it, don’t die, ah, I just hope that I see twenty-five (Five).” Woo! Of course, Yeat is incredibly devilish, rapping, “I promise, lil’ bitch, you’ll get stabbed, I put it on your fuckin’ back / I blowin’ your bae out, I’m callin’ your pap, callin’ your dad.” He may be demonic, but Yeat brings the heat – there is no confidence or energy deficit 🔥!
4. Whitechapel, “When a Demon Defiles a Witch”
💿 The Valley • 🏷 Metal Blade • 📅 2019
“The demons dance by the fireside / But tonight they migrate to my bedside.” Woo! 🎵 “When a Demon Defiles a Witch”. Damn, that’s a disturbing song title to say the least 😱! “When a Demon Defiles a Witch” arrives as the opener on 💿 The Valley, the 2019 album by Tennessee metal collective, 🎙 Whitechapel. Fittingly, this witchy song is set in a minor key. Also, portions of the song feature aggressive, unclean vocals, intense, jagged guitars, and wild lyrics 😈.
“There’s nowhere left to run
There’s nowhere left for me to be
Without you by my side.”
For some context, the visions captured lyrically on “When a Demon Defiles a Witch” came from singer 🎙 Phil Bozeman’s mom. His mom had mental issues, hence why such a vision is incredibly outlandish. Per Kerrang, guitarist 🎙 Ben Savage states, “Phil’s mom would see a demon outside or by her fireside, and she knew that if she saw it there, then it would be by her bedside that night.” Wow! Truly, “What has the world come to when a demon defiles a witch?”

5. Joji, “Demons”
💿 In Tongues (Deluxe) • 🏷 88rising / EMPIRE • 📅 2018
🎵 “Demons,” a highlight from the 2018 🎙 Joji project, 💿 In Tongues, features clever lyricism. The central theme seems to be a relationship. Here, Joji appears to be discussing the inevitable breakup – the “death” of the relationship. In some instances, he’s putting a bandage on things. Despite this, there’s no smooth sailing: “We don’t gotta die so soon / So I just behave for you.” In the chorus, he emphasizes warning over threat. By the outro, however, he’s ready to end it: “Please just let me go / Let me go / I’ve seen enough…”
6. Drake, “Demons” (Ft. Fivio Foreign & Sosa Geek)
💿 Dark Lane Demo Tapes • 🏷 OVO / Republic • 📅 2020
On 🎵 “Demons,” 🎙 Drake dabbles in drill music. “Demons” features some of the most ‘souped-up’ production of his 💿 Dark Lane Demo Tapes (2020), thanks to 🎛 JB Made It. Furthermore, Drake enlists the services of 🎙 Fivio Foreign and 🎙 Sosa Geek 🔥. Fivio Foreign brings serious toughness in the second verse, complementing the JB Made It dramatic backdrop perfectly (“She got a face that you cannot mistake / She paid for the food, and we went on a date / Head game great, huh, she let me nut on her face”). A demon 😈 indeed! Similarly, Sosa Greek is aggressive AF in the third verse (“Bitch, I’m a demon in the night / And I’m a shark up underwater (I am) / I got shooters in New York / And I got shooters across the border”). Backtracking, Drake raps the opening verse, throwing in some French and Jamaican patois. The 🏆 Grammy-winner’s best moment, however, is the chorus:
“Fivi, Sosa, vira, movie
I’m in this bitch with the Wooski
Ball in the summer like Drew League
Champagne got me loopy
Glizzy Bop lookin’ groovy
All the demons lookin’ moody.”
7. Imagine Dragons, “Demons”
💿 Night Visions • 🏷 KIDinaKORNER / Interscope • 📅 2012
“No matter what we breed, we still are made of greed / This is my kingdom come, this is my kingdom come.” According to 🎙 Dan Reynolds, he is going to hell 😈. Why is the front man of 🏆 Grammy-winning rock band 🎙 Imagine Dragons destined to burn baby, burn? It’s thanks to those 🎵 “Demons”! The chorus of the highlight from the collective’s 2012 album, 💿 Night Visions, sums up the hellishness: “When you feel my heat, look into my eyes / It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide/ Don’t get too close; it’s dark inside / It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide.” Oh, shiitake mushrooms 🍄, Dan! Of course, it’s not only the chorus of “Demons” that speaks to darkness and utter damnation. Reynolds references false idolatry, greed, superficiality, and ultimately, sin, sin, SIN! Yeah, ole boy wants to lie and “shelter you,” but ultimately, “But with the beast inside, there’s nowhere we can hide.” “Demons” crushed it on the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at no. 6 in 2013, and spending a total of 61 weeks on the chart. As far as the parent album, Night Visions debuted at no. 2 on the Billboard 200, spending more than 400 weeks on the chart. Nothing demonic about that 👏👏👏!
8. Alec Benjamin, “Demons”
💿 These Two Windows • 📅 2020
“I got all these demons hiding underneath / Nobody can see them, nobody but me, and you’re the reason…” Even though the excerpt from the chorus suggests an incredibly depressed 🎙 Alec Benjamin record, 🎵 “Demons” (💿 These Two Windows) isn’t particularly sad in sound. “Demons” features a quick tempo, subtle, yet potent vocals, and ultimately, very little ‘heaviness.’ The chorus continues, “The only thing that keeps me from diving off the deep end / Because I’ve got all these demons, demons, demons, mmm.” In the verses, Benjamin is thankful for the person who was there for him in each way. “You were there to take away the pain that I felt,” he sings in the first, adding in the second, “You forgave me, and you gave me hope.” The big mystery is WHO Alec is referencing as his savior of sorts. Interestingly, Benjamin states this isn’t his favorite song on the album: “It frequently bothers me that I don’t know how I feel about it”. Okurrr!
9. G-Eazy, “Demons & Angels” (Ft. Miguel & The Game)
💿 Scary Nights (EP) • 🏷 RCA • 📅 2019
Two big names join rapper 🎙 G-Eazy on 🎵 “Demons & Angels,” the penultimate number from his 2019 EP, Scary Nights. That would be 🏆 Grammy-winning R&B artist, 🎙 Miguel, and multiplatinum West Coast rapper, 🎙 The Game. Focusing on the collabs first, Miguel sounds as soulful as ever, never over-singing, yet shining on the chorus: “I’m just gettin’ hotter and it’s colder / Demons and angels on my shoulders / Every open door require closure / Keep goin’ ‘til it’s over…” As for The Game, he’s on autopilot in the second verse, spitting at one point, “Wear my heart on a sleeve of this Off-White hoodie / You need some time to grow up, I know, I drafted a rookie / I’m Phil Jackson in this ill jacket / Pardon my head, yeah, I feel like I wrote Illmatic…” With such star power, Eazy could pretty much sit back, right? RIGHT, BUT he drops a respectable first verse before deferring to Miguel and The Game (“It’s from the heart for all my day ones, not my day twos / It’s by my demons and angels, yeah”).
10. The Flaming Lips, “Listening to the Frogs with Demon Eyes”
💿 Oczy Mlody • 🏷 Warner • 📅 2017
“Have you ever seen someone die / In the summertime, in the summertime?” That is the question 🎙 The Flaming Lips front man, 🎙 Wayne Coyne, asks on 🎵 “Listening to the Frogs with Demon Eyes.” “Demon Eyes” is the longest song off the band’s 2017 album, 💿 Oczy Mlody. It clocks in at seven and half minutes 😮. Despite its ambitious length, “Listening to the Frogs with Demon Eyes” ranks among the most intriguing listens 👍 💪. Expectedly, given TFL’s penchant for being over-the-top, there are frogs 🐸 ribbitting 😏. It would’ve been disappointing without them, sigh 🤷🏾♂️. “Listening to the Frogs with Demon Eyes” masterfully avoids predictability – save for those frogs – by offering contrasting sections. The verses, chorus, and bridge are all separate entities in effect. Never change, The Flaming Lips!
11. Machine Gun Kelly, “D3MONS” (Ft. DMX)
💿 Lace Up • 🏷 Bad Boy / Interscope • 📅 2012
“I swear that I can feel ‘em fuckin’ with me (Why?) / Every night I feel ‘em fuckin’ with me (Why?).” Hmm 🤔, Who be fuckin’ with you, 🎙 Machine Gun Kelly? “Please God tell these demons stop fuckin’ with me (Why?) / Every God damn night I feel ‘em fuckin’ with me (Why?) / Please God.” Oh, it’s those pesky 🎵 “D3MONS” that are messing Kells up! Notably Machine Gun Kelly secured a second collaboration with the now deceased 😢 🎙 DMX. On this standout from Kelly’s debut album, 💿 Lace Up, we get a truly twisted representation of the effects of various demons. It is worth noting that a demonic joint deserves demonic production. Shout out to 🎛️ Dame Grease!
Machine Gun Kelly alludes to drugs: “My skin is bluish, voices in my head saying / ‘Don’t be stupid all you have is in that bag you better use it’.” Of course, the confirmation that those demons are fuckin’ him over occurs in that aggressive chorus. Him and DMX alternate verses – Kelly / DMX / DMX / Kelly. Speaking of X, he has his fair share of assertive bars: “If a beast’s what I got to be, then so be it (What?) / Fuck it, if I got to live it (Uh), then y’all gon’ see it (Do it) / Eat it, shit it, live it – it’s in my blood.” RIP DMX! Sure, the demons are sus AF but 🎵 “D3MONS” –more than a decade later – is a 🔥 rap banger, PERIOD!
