Rihanna, Anti © Roc NationAh, a playlist comprised of 10 songs requiring ‘work’ to be put in! The list includes songs courtesy of Rihanna, Fifth Harmony, Iggy Azalea and more.

Sometimes in order to earn something, you simply have to put the work in. In the case of this list of 10 songs, “work” is the key ingredient. The word definitely means more than a “nine to five” and in the case of these songs, in many cases, it does! Here are 10 songs that require the W-O-R-K to be put in. Also, check out the corresponding Ranker list!

1. Rihanna featuring Drake, “Work”

Anti, 2016

“Work, work, work…”

Commentary

Everyone knows this song is utterly ridiculous. That said, it’s as infectious as a four-letter word that rhymes with muck. Give Rihanna and Drake credit for keeping the innuendo tasteful on “Work” as opposed to being profane.

2. Fifth Harmony ft. Ty Dolla $ign, “Work From Home”

7/27, 2016

“You don’t gotta go to work…/Let my body do the work…”

Commentary

Another song chocked full of innuendo. Honestly, how can the dude make any $$$ if he “don’t gotta go to work?” Yes, there are some jobs where employees do have the privilege of being able to “Work from Home,” but this is clearly a different type of work the gals of Fifth Harmony are referencing. “Let my body do the work, work, work, work…” yeah, that’s not paying the bills…

3. Iggy Azalea, “Work”

The New Classic, 2014

“I’ve been up all night, tryna get that rich / I’ve been work, work, work, work, working on my shit / milked the whole game twice, gotta get it how I live…”

Commentary

Well Iggy, they say that practice makes perfect… We’ll leave it there.

4. A$AP Ferg ft. French Montana, Trinidad James & Schoolboy Q, “Work REMIX”

Trap Lord, 2013

“Put in work, put in work /…put ‘em in the dirt”

Commentary

Swag! These MCs are straight flexing over a banging beat and killing the game…or something like that. There’s some irresponsibility in there too – French Montana, don’t you know “lean” can be deadly? Also, “work” is used loosely, obvious from the jump with A$AP Ferg’s verse where he references a certain, um, sex act… moving on!

5. Hozier, “Work Song”

Hozier, 2014

“When, my, time comes around / Lay me gently in the cold dark earth / No grave can hold my body down / I’ll crawl home to her.”

Commentary

Hozier lays it all on the line – this love is a deep one. It’s clear from the start that Hozier loves his bae: “Boys, workin’ on empty / is that the kinda way to face the burning heat / I just think about my baby.” He confirms the depth of his love on the chorus, ludicrously suggesting he’d exit his grave (escaping inevitable death essentially) to be with her. Give him credit – that’s poetic stuff right there, and authenticity by all means!

6. Omarion, “Work”

Sex Playlist, 2014

“So go and get you in the shower in the water / I’m gonna stay dry with 10,000 / All on your body, it’s like power / Giving you that energy to work.”

Commentary

Hmm, basically this is all about sex, hence using “work” in a sexual context once more. The “10,000” seems to suggest “making it rain” as in the strip club aka “Bandz A Make Her Dance” style… Basically, to Omarion, this girl is “banging” – wait a minute – perhaps that wasn’t the best choice of words…

7. WALK THE MOON, “Work This Body”

TALKING IS HARD, 2014

“Show me what you got / Work this body on the floor / Who do you think you are? / C’mon meet me on the court.”

Commentary

WALK THE MOON clearly wants to win! They will conquer! Being the “workaholics” they are, “one day, [they] will beat you fair and square!” Book it!

8. Wiz Khalifa, “Work Hard, Play Hard”

O.N.I.F.C., 2012

“Work hard, play hard…”

Commentary

Really, what is there to explain? Since Wiz is “working hard” to earn his money, he gets to “play hard.” That makes perfect sense, right?

9. Majid Jordan, “Make It Work”

Majid Jordan, 2016

“I’ve been having lots of troubles here lately / I don’t wanna do these things but you make me (you do) / something in my heart feels vacant / I can’t even pretend, no, I won’t even pretend…All I keep on thinking is work / make it work, make it work…”

Commentary: This groove, though – infectious AF! Yep, you can tell these are the dudes who fueled the fire for Drake’s Just Hold On, We’re Going Home.” Basically, Majid Jordan has “been having lots of troubles here lately,” but are striving to “make it work, make it work.” What are they trying to “make work?” The potential relationship of course!

10. Britney Spears, “Work B**ch”

Britney Jean, 2012

“You want a hot body? You want a Bugatti / You want a Maserati? You better work bitch.”

Commentary

Again, this is one of those situations where there is nothing more to say! Like Wiz, “Work hard, play hard.” If you want to be a success, you better WORK!
