Remaining in the public eye, the ubiquitous Ty Dolla $ign returns with his latest project, Beach House 3 (October 27).  Categorizing Ty Dolla $ign is kind of difficult – he’s not exactly a rapper, yet, he’s not limited to being a singer.  Last time we heard from Ty, he dropped a mixtape in 2016, Campaign.  In advance of Beach House 3, the rapper/singer dropped a number of singles, including “Dawsin’s Breek.”

“Dawsin’s Breek” features strong production work, with the drum programming leading the charge.  Ty Dolla $ign is on autopilot, doing what he does best – flex.  He pop-raps on the chorus:

“I got a brand-new coupe, uh
I got a brand-new ‘Rari
I got a brand-new boo
I put my bitch in park...”

Both Ty and Jeremih drop short verses, but the chorus dominates the song. The biggest selling point is the sound of “Dawsin’s Breek.” “Dawsin’s Breek” has its cons.  First and foremost, the record isn’t particularly deep.  As aforementioned, the verses are short and devoid of the substance.  The chorus, which is the main lyrical feature, is a flex-fest, not anything more substantial or meaningful.  While the sound of “Dawsin’s Breek” is a selling point, in the bigger scheme of things, it’s not ‘brand-new.’  At this point, it feels as if Ty Dolla $ign is recycling.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Dawsin’s Breek” is enjoyable and respectable.  It’s not game changing, but this is certainly a step above the previous Ty Dolla $ign single, “So Am I”.
