The Vamps, Night & Day © VirginBritish boy band The Vamps and Matoma have a hit on their hands with “All Night,” a single from The Vamps’ upcoming album, ‘Night & Day.’

The Vamps isn’t a household name – at least stateside.  The British boy band has struggled to find its footing.  It doesn’t help that the boy band has faded, AGAIN. Nonetheless, The Vamps have a new album on the horizon (Night & Day) and an enjoyable single, “All Night” with MatomaCool beans.

“All Night” opens energetically, offering listeners the main attraction early on.  While the single arguably shows its hand, this enhances its impact, amplifying its catchiness and infectiousness.

“I been up all night, no sleep / ‘Cause I feel like I’m always dreaming…/ Wide awake, that’s okay, as long as I’m with you / I’ll be up all night, no sleep / Cause I feel like I’m always dreaming…”

In addition to an early chorus reveal, we also get a taste of the production palette.  Clearly, “All Night” is firmly planted in the modern vein, incorporating elements of urban-pop and electronic music.  The slickness bodes well in The Vamps favor, offering more for casual listeners and non-fans to coalesce to.

Is “All Night” deep? No, of course not.  Many pop songs aren’t, and “All Night” finds itself in the same boat.  This is a love song, or at least a song of deep like.  The first verse tackles a cliché – you make me better:

“Ever since you came around, can’t nobody hold me down / You show me how to find myself when I needed it the most.”

On the second verse, there’s more drama, or perhaps melodrama, depending on the read:

“The circles underneath my eyes / Tell the truth that I’ve been trying to hid / I’ve been waiting too long / Won’t you come and take me home.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, “All Night” is a go.  The Vamps haven’t been able to break through stateside, but “All Night” helps their cause.  It’s not the second coming, but there’s something here for sure.
