Pop duo Timeflies return with a romantic new single, “Gravity.” Clearly, the M.O. is “falling in love.”

Timeflies returns with a new single, “Gravity.” It’s been a while since hearing from the eclectic pop duo, who dropped “Something Wrong” in late August. Ultimately, “Gravity” ends up being an enjoyable, respectable single.

“Gravity” establishes itself as a love song. The palette of sounds is lighter and meant to sound romantic and dreamy. The vocals are tender from the jump, initially sung by Cal Shapiro in an undertone:

“Scene change, new chapters, my jersey’s in the rafters / how I would’ve done it over, harder, better, faster / If I’m ghost, then I’m Casper, that’s why I call you ‘boo’ / this ain’t normally some type of shit I do.”

The chorus is simple, but catchy and memorable:

“Is it gravity or are we falling in love?… / We fall, we fall, I guess we’re falling in love.”

Predictably, “Gravity” has a post-chorus.  This falls in line with many EDM and EDM-infused pop songs.

“We fall, we fall, I guess we’re falling in love.”

The aforementioned lyrics are coupled with an instrumental lead, also typical of electronic music.

Some of the lyrics are corny AF. This includes the aforementioned reference to Casper.  Also, it expands to a reference to Thousand Island dressing of all things:

“Take her to a thousand islands ‘cause the way she dressing.”

The bridge is sung like everything else. There is no overt rap in this particular Timeflies song.

“Caught up in this moment, wonder if you notice / girl, when I’m around you, I can’t focus…”

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Gravity” gives the dudes of Timeflies another enjoyable single. Perhaps “Gravity” isn’t next-level, but it is pleasant, fitting perfectly into the EDM-pop sphere of 2016.  Shapiro sings soundly while Rob Resnick gets it done on the boards.
