Rick Ross, I Think She Like Me © EpicRick Ross is cocky and confident on flex-track, “I Think She Like Me.” He gets a great assist from Ty Dolla $ign.

Luxurious rap.  That describes Rick Ross to a tee.  The Boss lost some of his oomph following his Grammy-nominated album, God Forgives, I Don’t. That’s no knock on his three follow-up efforts – Mastermind, Hood Billionaire, or Black Market – but none packed the same punch critically or commercially.  Ahead of his forthcoming 2017 album, Ross drops a soulful, luxurious promo single, “I Think She Like Me.”

“I Think She Like Me” represents Rick Ross in his element.  Opening with a soul sample courtesy of The Stylistics (“People Make the World Go Round”), the lush production work is fuel for his lyrical fire.  Sure, he’s not dropping innovative new lyrics, but the ability to flex and flex hard is worth something.  For example, he slyly injects a masturbatory reference for the millionth time, but it still works.

“Every nut I bust really, I gotta do it twice.”

In addition to his confident lyrics, Ross enlists the services of Ty Dolla $ign.  While Ty Dolla $ign has become a bit saturated – too ubiquitous – he fits the hook.

“Uh, I think she like me
Oh, I think she like me
I know her nigga don’t like me
With your bitch right now? Yeah, I might be…”

Should Rick have allowed his partner in crime his own verse? Arguably, but contextually, the selfishness of Ross is respectable.  He needed a big single to reignite the base, and he delivers.

Final Thoughts

On “I Think She Like Me,” Rick Ross doesn’t reinvent the wheel.  He didn’t need to.  All in all, “I Think She Like Me” gives the Miami MC a sound banger.  Nothing new, but Ross is on his “A” game.
