Rick Ross enlists Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz for flex-fest banger, “Buy Back the Block.”

Rick Ross has no shortage of confidence.  The Florida rapper loves to brag to say the least. While he may lack the physique to physically flex his muscles (despite enjoying being shirtless), he can flex is beastly fashion on the rap track. On new single “Buy Back the Block,” he enlists Gucci Mane and 2 Chainz to assist him in his flex-fest.

“Buy Back the Block” opens with a spoken word skit, accompanied by foreboding production work. The beat is sick – a hard, thudding kick packs a mean punch. 2 Chainz kicks off the rhymes, rapping on the first verse. Never deep or profound, he raps about his money and selling dope.  This establishes “Buy Back the Block” as the flex fest that it is.

Rick Ross handles the repetitive hook:

“It’s time to buy back the block, buy back the block…/ it’s time to buy back the hood, buy back the hood.”

Gucci Mane guests on the second verse. Predictably, he raps about selling drugs and making money (“I sold 10 bricks a day but now I need 10 Chick-Fil-A’s”). His most distinct line is his filthiest, referencing fellatio:

“She says her jaws hurt, she need to give her mouth a rest.”

Rick Ross finally gets his turn on the third verse. Bizarrely, he raps about buying food chains and Family Dollar.

Final Thoughts

Overall, “Buy Back the Block” is a respectable flex track from Rick Ross and company.  This isn’t groundbreaking stuff, but sound.  “Buy Back the Block” is well produced and has swag working in its favor.  Will it get Rick Ross back on the “good foot?” Not likely.
