After a hiatus, singer/songwriter, and pianist Regina Spektor announced her return to music via September 30 album, Remember Us to Life. Spektor released two singles โ€“ โ€œBleeding Heartโ€ and โ€œSmall Bill$โ€ โ€“ prior to her most recent single, โ€œBlack and White.โ€ย  โ€œBlack and Whiteโ€ maintains the consistency that Spektor has exhibited as of yet.

โ€œBlack and Whiteโ€ opens with piano, followed abruptly with Spektorโ€™s vocals. In effect, the song features very little intro.ย  Regardless, Spektor sounds beautiful, delivering clear, pitch-perfect vocals. Her upper register โ€“ showcased on the chorus โ€“ sounds effortless. The vocal production is stunning overall, particularly on the chorus.ย  Throughout its course, lovely instrumentation is incorporated, adding to the coolness and smooth flow of the record.ย  The strings in particular are gorgeous.

Final Thoughts

All in all, โ€œBlack and Whiteโ€ is another fantastic single from Regina Spektor. Sheโ€™s yet to miss, setting up forthcoming album Remember Us to Life as a truly special effort.
