PnB Rock, Playa No More | Track Review 🎵

Rapper/singer PnB Rock expresses his dedication to ‘her’ on “Playa No More.” He’s assisted by rappers A Boogie with Da Hoodie and Quavo.

2017 – new year, new artists.  One promising new artist in the urban vein is PnB Rock.  PnB Rock is representative of the hybrid musician – one who both sings and raps interchangeably.  Rock has released a couple of mixtapes, most notably the commercially available 2015 effort, RNB 3, released on major label Atlantic. 2017 welcomes his proper debut, GTTM: Goin Thru the Motions.  Three singles arrived prior to GTTM: “Selfish”, “New Day”, and “Playa No More,” featuring A Boogie with Da Hoodie and Quavo (Migos).

 “Playa No More” features slick production work that has a throwback R&B feel.  The groove and use of piano are what shines in particular. The sound is enthusiastic and energetic, despite being set in a minor key. A Boogie with Da Hoodie raps the first verse.  He spits his fair share of game, but is clearly ready to settle down with this girl: “On my grown shit, I get nauseous tryna sweat her / I’m the coldest, I recorded this in a sweater…” The last part of the featured quote is corny, but Boogie gets his point across.

PnB Rock handles the catchy hook, singing:

“Why you playin,’ shawty? I could put you on, yeah
I know I got all of these girls up in my phone, yeah
But on the real, you the only one I want, yeah
‘Cause I don’t wanna be a play no more…”

The rapper-singer goes on to pop-rap the second verse.

“Shawty I don’t wanna play them games no more
Used to be a dog, I ain’t the same no more, no
I ain’t tryna be forgettin’ names no more, no
I swear I ain’t dodgin’ Cupid’s aim no more.”

Quavo takes the third and final verse. Like PnB Rock, his voice is drenched in effects.

“I’m the one she call on
I gotta leave my dogs alone
You can’t give an old dog a new bone
In other words, baby girl, I’m comin’ on home...”

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Playa No More” is an enjoyable single. It’s not the second coming by any means, but give these dudes credit for their dedication. Are the stars bright for PnB Rock? He has a shot.
