Machine Gun Kelly, Trap Paris | Track Review 🎵

Machine Gun Kelly, assisted by Quavo & Ty Dolla $ign, returns with toughness on “Trap Paris,” the 3rd single from his 3rd LP, bloom.

Machine Gun Kelly looks to do big things on his third album, bloom, arriving May 12, 2017.  As of publication time, MGK released three singles: “Bad Things,” with Camila Cabello, “At My Best,” featuring Hailee Steinfeld, and “Trap Paris,” featuring Quavo and Ty Dolla $ign. Given the more pop-oriented nature of “Bad Things” and “At My Best,” “Trap Paris” is the first single from bloom with some edge.

First things first. Paris seems to be an incredibly popular title and topic in pop music as of late.  The Chainsmokers already delivered “Paris,” now Machine Gun Kelly takes a trip there on “Trap Paris.” The single isn’t really about Paris, France, but about how far the respective artists – namely MGK – have come.   Rapping the first verse himself, explicit Machine Gun Kelly is back full force.  In other words, it only takes a couple of lines for him to drop his first f-bomb.

“Woke up in Paris
Broke all the mirrors (that lean)
Watch me, last night was too turnt
They caught me fucking on camera.”

More important than his sexcapades, he represents for Cleveland, for the umpteenth time in his career.

“I’m home-bred, hometown, been around the world, I’m back now
I’m Mr. Miyagi with was in the sake
And I’m running the streets to the city like Rocky
Who da champ? Who da champ?”

Ty Dolla $ign delivers the chorus, with his signature, raspy vocals:

“I woke up in Paris
In the bed, with a bad bitch…
First I roll up the flesh
Then I went back for seconds
Swear that pussy the wettest…”

Expectedly, depth isn’t part of the formula.  The focus – smoking weed and having sex.  The excesses of fame. Quavo, like MGK, raps about coming up.

“Made it from the bottom, what you thinking of me?
Now I got some dollars, they keep hanging with me…”

Final Thoughts 

All in all, “Trap Paris” is enjoyable, but not the second coming.  It was smart of Machine Gun Kelly to release this track following two softer ones.  Still, MGK has released stronger, more memorable songs.  Good, but not great.
