4 out of 5 stars

Country-pop veteran Leann Rimes proves she has pop chops on promo single “Long Live Love.”

“Long Live Love” features feisty, aggressive vocals from Leann Rimes.  Rimes sounds good dropping the “country” and embracing pop. The record has a soulful-pop quality. There is a bridge to contemporary R&B, which is an unexpected, but successful look.  On the first verse, Rimes still has enough shades of her country background that should please her core fan base.

A number of memorable lyrics appear on “Long Live Love.” The first:

“I got sick of crawling / so you could be a big man / I got tired of my balls being cut off / ‘cause you didn’t have none.”

Another highlight appears later:

“Gonna wash your dirt off / ‘til I’m spakin’ clean / cause the real deal baby / he’s gonna look good on me…”

The chorus is catchy, accentuated by backing vocals:

“So long live love / I ain’t ever given up on it / long live love / won’t be long until I rise up…”

Final Thoughts

All in all, Leann Rimes rocks on “Long Live Love.” Chocked full of attitude and ripe vocals, her forthcoming album (Remnants) should be a treat.
