Canadian alternative R&B duo dvsn โ Daniel Daley & Nineteen85 โ return respectably with single, โThink About Me.โ
Drake is everywhere.ย Okay, okay, heโs not part of dvsn, but the Canadian duo is signed to his imprint OVO Sound, a subsidiary of Warner Bros.ย Dvsn โ Daniel Daley and Nineteen85 โ quietly arrived in 2016 with its debut album, Sept. 5th.ย While the album didnโt yield breakthrough success, they showed immense potential, particularly on gems like the opener, โWith Meโ and โToo Deep.โ The duo returns with single, โThink About Me.โ
Expectedly, dvsn are in no hurry on โThink About Me.โย The record is relaxed, lush, and sensual to the core.ย Lyrically, depth isnโt the M.O. โ the title alone confirms that.ย The verses are both structured with simplicity, with few words.ย On verse one Daley sings:
โDonโt think that we Could ever be friends again โCause our history Seems like it never ends.โ
Itโs relatable, but, weโve been there before.ย On the second verse, there manages to be slightly bigger vocabulary, rhyming platonic and ironic.
โDonโt think that we Could ever be just platonic And is it just me Or would that be too ironic?โ
With the verses performed in a more legato, smoother style, the pre-chorus and chorus are more verbose, embracing hip-hop.ย Both pre-chorus sections manage to incorporate the f-bomb โ we knew it was coming: โNow who gonna fuck like I do? Yeah nobodyโฆ / Everything you do, I want you, tell the fuckinโ truth.โ The chorus, like the verses, just lays it out there. No frills, but honest:
โI know you still think about me I know you still think about me Way up there all alone Yeah, I bet theyโll never knowโฆโ
Final Thoughtsย
All in all, โThink About Meโ is enjoyable, and effective, despite lacking depth.ย Clearly, this is about exes.ย One is still feeling it, while the other may be, and just doesnโt admit it.ย Simple, yet it works.ย Vocally, this is a strong performance.ย Similarly, the production work is well done.
