“Good Day” gives DNCE another catchy, carefree, and fun single. It’s slickly produced much like previous singles by the pop collective.

Joe Jonas-led pop collective DNCE have been on a roll lately.  “Cake by the Ocean” gave DNCE a breakthrough hit.  Since “Cake,” the band has delivered more fun singles (“Body Moves” and “Blown”), though none have made the splash of the innuendo-laden gem.  Perhaps fun new single “Good Day” will give them another hit.

“Good Day” has an optimistic sound, like the rest of DNCE’s singles as of yet.  Even so, it has a different sound compared to previous singles – there’s a bit more pop/rock quality. Essentially, the song is about the aftermath of partying too hard the night before.  This message is exemplified by numerous lyrics.

“Woke up, just woke up / my girlfriend warned me that I drink too much / Advil, good pill / head pounds like the bass on the party bus.”

Following this highlighted line from the first verse is another gem from the second:

“Last night, last night / got in a fight with the karaoke mic…”

The pre-chorus sets up an awesome chorus:

“Ooh I feel like a million bucks in a toilet / ooh, my head to my toes to my soul has been poisoned / living proof, that even when your whole life has been destroyed/ you can still enjoy it.”

Nice claps, enthusiastic vocals, and guitar accompaniment are selling points on the chorus. Besides the superb production, the chorus is catchy and infectious to the nth degree:

“Today is gonna be a good day / don’t care what anybody else say / oh-oh-oh, I don’t need a fortune cookie to tell me the way I’m feeling / gonna be a good day / a good day.”

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Good Day” is slickly produced like previous singles by DNCE. It’s catchy, carefree, and fun.  This sentiment seems to be the M.O. for the band, and it’s successful. “Good Day” isn’t the second coming, but another enjoyable offering from this up-and-coming collective.
