Tory Lanez, Skrt Skrt © InterscopeCanadian rapper/singer Tory Lanez returns with guilt pleasure single “Skrt Skrt,” which encompasses two popular things: drinking and sex.

Tory Lanez entered the game in 2016, dropping his debut album, I Told YouI Told You ended up being a mixed-bag, but Lanez had his moments.  The main issue with the Canadian artist has been identity.  What kind of artist does he want to be? Furthermore, if he’s a do-it-all rapper/singer, how does he distinguish himself from the likes of Drake.  After unleashing “Shooters,” He returns with a new single, charmingly titled, Skrt Skrt.”

“Skrt Skrt” is all about mad game.  Tory Lanez concerns himself with two things – drinking and sex.

“I think it’s time we made / Time to f*ck around off this Patron.”

Sigh, it’s simple and shallow, but against a tropical-urban beat, it’s a guilty pleasure.  There’s no rapping here – it’s all singing.  On the chorus, Tory Lanez makes ‘the desires of his heart (and nether)’ known.

“Cuz I like freaking / You like sex on the weekend / Me too, me too / Cuz I like drinking / You look at me winking / Me to, me too… / You gon make me / Skrt skrt…”

Honestly, that’s about the size of “Skrt Skrt.” The biggest pros are hearing Tory Lanez sing because arguably, that’s his forte.  The song itself is what it is – a guilty pleasure.  It’s okay, but definitely not transcendent or particularly memorable.  There’s been a number of songs written about alcohol and sex.  “So what?”

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, the promo campaign for the second Tory Lanez album is starting off shaky.  While “Skrt Skrt” is enjoyable, it’s not game changing by any means.  As highlighted earlier, identity has been an issue with Lanez.  While this vibe bodes well for him, it doesn’t make him a superstar or more distinct than anybody else.
