Toby Keith, The Bus Songs © Show DogCountry vet Toby Keith turns his bad golf game into a hilariously-charming tongue-n-cheek, novelty country song on “Shitty Golfer.”

Toby Keith is one of kind – understatement.  On his new single “Shitty Golfer,” he doesn’t bite his tongue. Are you allowed to swear this much in country music? Not usually, but it’s Toby Keith and he’s been around for a minute.  “Shitty Golfer” serves as the opener for his forthcoming album, The Bus Songs, due September 8, 2017.

Just as the song suggests, Toby Keith is a self-admitted shitty golfer.  He spends the entirety of the unplugged, acoustic-guitar accompanied song singing about just how bad he is.  While this shouldn’t make a good song, it works because the country vet has a great sense of humor.  This is tongue-n-cheek through and through, an area where Keith has been incredibly successful in the past.  One particular “Red Solo Cup” comes to mind when finding a song in a similar vein as “Shitty Golfer.”

Final Thoughts

At only two minutes and sixteen seconds, there’s not much depth to add about “Shitty Golfer.” It truly is what it is.  Ultimately, it’s a fun, if silly novelty country song as only Toby Keith can pull off.  It’s corny by all means, but there’s a certain charm nonetheless.  At this point in his career, his most lucrative years have come and gone, so what does Keith care what he says or what songs he releases? He can be a shitty golfer for the rest of his career after the success he’s attained.
