Thomas Rhett returns with “Star of the Show,” the promo single for the re-release of 2015 sophomore album, Tangled Up.

Country artist Thomas Rhett had an awesome year in 2015 and into 2016.  Rhett’s sophomore album, Tangled Up yielded a big-time hit with “Die A Happy Man.” It’s safe to say, the single elevated his profile.  Not releasing a new album to capitalize upon success, Rhett is prudently rereleasing Tangled Up in a deluxe edition.  Promoting the rerelease is single “Star of the Show,” another potential hit for the country crossover standout.

“Star of the Show” opens with a nice rhythmic guitar groove, which possesses a pop-soul quality. From the start, one can hear that the goal of this record is crossover appeal. A dash of pedal steel provides a country aspect of this record. Ultimately, numerous production techniques and cues solidify the country status of “Star of the Show.” These include “a little bit of this and that” instrumentally – pedal steel, organ, and banjo. Banjo sneaks in during the chorus, a definitive country cue.

Rhett delivers clear vocals. He sounds exceptionally polished throughout the course of the record.  The chorus is the crème de la crème, as catchy as albeit:

“Cause everywhere we go / you’re the star of the show / and everybody’s wondering and wanting to know / what’s your name? / who’s that girl, with the prettiest smile in the world / oh, what gets me the most is you don’t even know…”

Final Thoughts 

Overall, Thomas Rhett assembles a well-rounded record with “Star of the Show.” It likely won’t supplant “Die A Happy Man,” but this should please pop and country fans alike.  “Star of the Show” is well performed, well produced, and quite catchy.
