Shania Twain, Now © Mercury NashvilleWhat’s the chart scoop this week? Shania Twain makes a big comeback with ‘Now,’ which easily debuts at no. 1. “Life’s About to Get Good” for Shania Twain.

It seemed inevitable.  Now, it has happened.  Shania Twain makes a comeback after a 15-year hiatus with Now.  Unsurprisingly, said comeback tops the Billboard 200.  Again, inevitable.  Even though Twain seemed to have steep competition on paper (Demi Lovato and Miley Cyrus), she easily debuted at no. 1.  Now moved 137,000 units, with nearly 98% of that total being album sales.  In the big scheme of things, 137,000 isn’t impressive, but given the current climate for album consumption, that’s excellent.

As for her competition, they didn’t fare nearly as well. Demi Lovato didn’t even settle for the runner-up spot – that would be the resurgence of Tom Petty following his death (Greatest Hits, no. 2).  Tell Me You Love Me starts at no. 3, with 75,000 units.  Less impressive are the sales, making up a so-so 64% of the units.  Miley Cyrus arrives at no. 5 with Younger Now, with just 45,000 units, of which a little more than 73% were sales. Between Lovato and Cyrus, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie gets into the action, as The Bigger Artist lands at no. 4 with 67,000 units, of which just about 15% were album sales! Tamar Braxton (Bluebird of Happiness) and Tank (Savage) miss the top 10.  The plight of R&B continues.

On the Billboard Hot 100, Cardi B remains the one to beat.  For a third week, “Bodak Yellow” claims the no. 1 spot. Beyoncé certainly lit a fire under the J Balvin / Willy William hit “Mi Gente.” The remix launches “Mi Gente” into the top five (no. 3).
