SCANNING THE CHARTS πis just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. To reiterate what I said last week (Pop Smoke Returns to No. 1), this column wonβt be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that π© moving. This week, I picked out FIVE notable observations π from the Billboard 200, and FIVE observations π from the Billboard Hot 100, with π Taylor Swift returning to no. 1 with πΏ Folklore for an eighth, nonconsecutive week.
Billboard 200 π
π π Tom Petty reenters the Billboard 200 at no. 5 with the reissued edition of his 1994 album, πΏ Wildflowers. The only new album to debut within the top 10 is πΏ Resonance, Pt. 1 courtesy of π NCT.
π Three more new albums bow within the top 20. π BTSβs πΏ Skool Luv Affair lands at no. 12. π Eagles πΏ Live from the Forum MMXVIII launches at no. 16. π T.I., once a top-five machine, settles for a lukewarm, no. 18 start for πΏ The L.I.B.R.A.
π Further down the Billboard 200, thereβs more fresh blood. π Sturgill Simpson bows at no. 24 with πΏ Cuttinβ Grass, Vol. 1: The Shoppe Sessions, while π Benny the Butcher starts at no. 29 with πΏ Burden of Proof.
π So, π Matt Berninger (π The National) released an album β πΏ Serpentine Prison. It didnβt exactly ignite the charts at no. 161 thoughβ¦
Billboard Hot 100 π
π π Justin Bieber is definitely impacting the Hot 100. π΅ βHolyβ ascends from no. 14 to no. 9 while π΅ βLonelyβ (with Benny Blanco) launches at no. 14.
π π Young Bleu, with the help of π Drake, launches at no. 52 with π΅ βYouβre Mines Still.β
π π G-Eazy, assisted byπ blackbear, debuts at no. 71 with π΅βHate the Wayβ. Worth noting, βHate the Wayβ marks a return to rap by Eazy following his questionable alternative LP, πΏ Everythingβs Strange Here.
π Social media star π Larray caused quite a stir with βCancelled,β which transcends YouTube success and launches on the Hot 100 at no. 80.
