Well, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet. This week, I picked out 7 notable observations from the Billboard 200 📉, and 5 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Summer Walker earning her first no. 1 album on the Billboard 200, and 🎙 Adele holding down the no. 1 spot on the Hot 100 with 🎵 “Easy on Me”.
Billboard 200 📉
💭 After releasing their first album in 40 years (💿 The Visitors, 1981), 🎙 ABBA debuts at no. 2 with 💿 Voyage. The iconic Swedish collective couldn’t beat Summer Walker, but performed respectably.
💭 After debuting last week at no. 1, 🏆 Grammy-winning pop singer/songwriter 🎙 Ed Sheeran slips to no. 4 on the Billboard 200 with 💿 =.
💭 Though overshadowed by new projects from Walker and ABBA, 🎙 Key Glock also earns a top-10 debut as 💿 Yellow Tape 2 bows at no. 7.
💭 Way down the Billboard 200, 🎙 Amine debuts at no. 98 with 💿 TwoPointFive.
💭 Welsh rock/metal band 🎙 Bullet For My Valentine debuts modestly at no. 153 with their 💿 self-titled album.
💭 🎙 Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats launches at no. 165 with 💿 The Future. Unfortunately, the immediate ‘future’ of The Future doesn’t look too bright given the tepid start.
Billboard Hot 100 📉
💭 🎙 Post Malone and 🎙 The Weeknd launch at no. 6 with 🎵 “One Right Now”.
💭 The final single from 🎙 Silk Sonic (🎙 Bruno Mars and 🎙 Anderson .Paak) in advance of 💿 An Evening with Silk Sonic, 🎵 “Smokin Out the Window”, launches at no. 8 on the Hot 100.
💭 Nobody is talking about the music of 🎙 Travis Scott. That is because of the disaster that was his ASTROWORLD Tour. Regardless, 🎵 “Escape Plan”, one of two new singles from the embattled rapper, debuts at no. 11 on the Hot 100. Further down the chart, 🎵 “Mafia” launches at no. 26.
💭 After putting up fine numbers for her sophomore album 💿 Still Over It, it’s not surprising that 🎙 Summer Walker scores numerous entries on the Hot 100. Her highest debut arrives courtesy of 🎵 “No Love” alongside 🎙 SZA at no. 13. Other spots occupied by Walker: No. 25, No. 33 (Notably a re-entry of 🎵 “Ex For a Reason” with JT), No. 41, Nos. 44-45, Nos. 48-50… It doesn’t stop there either!
