Welcome to Lit Music That Lifts (LMTL), or Music Lifts 🎶 🏋 for short! This column picks up where Sunday Refresh 🙏 leaves off, yet it hits different. Like its predecessor, Music Lifts seeks to highlight songs that encourage, inspire, and uplift the spirit; songs that exude fortitude, positivity, and resolve, even in the face of adversity. Featured songs aren’t genre-specific; songs may or may not be faith-based. The goal is for these songs to make you feel better – be LIFTED to new heights! So, for the 43rd edition of Music Lifts 🎶 🏋 (2022), we highlight 🎵 “From the Bottom of My Heart” as performed by 🎙 Stevie Wonder.
Similarly, the second verse emphasizes the gloriousness of love – no heartbreak to be found here. Wonder intents to “Keep this love burning endlessly,” WOO! Of course, the centerpiece – the exemplification of these uplifting, positive, love driven vibes – is none other than the chorus. Stevie Wonder sounds his best – his most elite – during the stunning refrain:
“From the bottom of my heart, I love you
I can say these words to you, without delay
If you’re wondering just how long I’ll love you
Try forever that’s how long I’ll feel this way.”
Honestly, “From the Bottom of My Heart” has some parallels to another sunny, love driven gem by Stevie – 🎵 “You Are The Sunshine of My Life”. “Sunshine” is the most classic of the two obviously, but “From the Bottom of My Heart” is a brilliant contemporary Stevie Wonder gem, not to mention an awesome contemporary R&B joint. As always, the 🏆 Academy and Grammy award winner wrote, produced, and played most of the instruments (keys and harmonica, notably) on this uplifting gem – what a talent!
