Smokepurpp, Bless Yo Trap | Track Review 🎵

SoundCloud up-and-coming, 20-year-old, Chicago rapper Smokepurpp drops a brief banger with “Bless Yo Trap.”

Rappers, rappers, everywhere! 2017 has seen a host of newbies start their career. 20-year old Smokepurpp is one of those newbies, ‘coming up’ from SoundCloud.  The Chicago rapper wants to bless his audience – well sort of.  He drops a banger with single, “Bless Yo Trap.”

Pros first.  “Bless Yo Trap” features exceptional production work.  Like the title suggests, the production sounds like its straight out of the trap.  This helps to make the record itself more interesting.  Another selling point is the aggressive, hard-as-nails persona that Smokepurpp showcases.  There’s never any doubt that the rapper isn’t playing around.  Finally, the hook is memorable, thanks to its repetition.

Cons, and there are some.  This record is basically pointless. Smokepurpp takes the opportunity to flex and nothing more.  Clocking in at under two-minutes, one expects more substance.  Ultimately, it’s devoid of it.  There are two iterations of the hook and one lonely verse.  That verse is tough as aforementioned, but the clichés have been played out.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Bless Yo Trap” doesn’t quite feel like a blessing.  The production, vibe, and even the flow is all selling points.  However, there’s just very little substance here.  After listening, the sentiment is, ‘so what?’  It’s okay, but I’d like to see, rather hear, more.
