R apper Rico Nasty dropped a brand-new single on September 17, 2020. “Own It” is definitely on the shorter side of things, running a mere two-minutes-and-ten seconds in duration. The single serves as the follow-up to Rico’s previous single, “IPHONE,” which was released in August.  On “Own It,” the rapper is true to self and idiomatic of what her female rap colleagues have been serving up with THAT ATTITUDE.

“Hold it
Grab the Dom P, yeah, pour it
Down to your feet for your homies
Know what I mean, bitch, own it, own it, own it.”

Yep, there it is – toughness beginning with the infectious chorus, which commences “Own It.” Set in a minor key, we get ample attitude from Rico Nasty.  She’s fierce and unapologetic.  While the chorus certainly embody an ‘IDGAF’ attitude, the verses better exemplify it.  On the verses, she serves up a sweet flow, not rapping too fast, and providing variation changing up the rhythm.  Some of standout lines from the verses are characterized by confidence, such aa “When I walk in, jaws gonna drop / They all in my face, wanna know what I got” (verse one) and “She wanna be me ‘cause I’m what she’s not / ‘Cause I’m VVS and she’s aluminum.”

Final Thoughts

Will Rico Nasty change your life with “Own It?” Nope, by no means will lives be changed with this flex cut.  That said, it’s enjoyable – definitely a pretty inoffensive vibe all said and done.
