Rich Chigga, See Me © 88rising / EMPIREThings continue to look up for Rich Brian (formerly Rich Chigga), who drops “See Me,” a promo single from his highly-anticipated debut album.

“I’ll do the shit ‘til the credits roll / Already got through the greatest goals.” Rich Chigga is now Rich Brian.  Whatever.  The 18-year old Indonesian rapper is set to release his full-length, debut album, Amen, in 2018.  “See Me” marks his first single as Rich Brian, as well as his first single of 2018, following numerous singles in 2017 (“Gospel”, “Glow Like Dat”, “Chaos”, and “Crisis”).

Rich Brian self-produces “See Me,” with solid results.  The production has a mellow, appealing, synth-driven sound.  Don’t call it soft though – RB still packs a punch.  He lays a wordy, but appealing hook at the top of the record.

“See me run, see me run / Runnin’ ‘til my lungs might give / Runnin’ for the front, I feel like Usain in this bitch (ayy) / Passin’ all these runners, number one is in my list / Blinders on me, I can’t even see…”

Following the hook, things get a bit non-standard regarding the form, with a bridge. Later, the second and final iteration of the bridge precedes chorus, rather than following it.  The meat of “See Me” arrives with the sole verse, where Rich Brian ‘does the damn thing.’ He kicks things off with the same lyric we kicked off this review.  His rhymes encompass sex (“Met this girl when I went back home / She put me in a group chat with that pussy”), money (“My brother… / Told me to be lactose tolerant / Man stop avoidin’ that cheddar”), and hunger (“I would never quit, I’m too legit / Indonesian MC Hammer in this bitch”).

Final Thoughts

Rich Brian continues to look at an upward trajectory on “See Me.” While life experience isn’t on his side given his youth, this teen rapper continues to impress.  He has a charm about him. “See Me” isn’t deep or ground breaking, but certainly interesting with plenty of replay value.
