PRETTYMUCH, Teacher © SimcoPRETTYMUCH show they are ‘pretty much’ the ‘next big boy-band’ on their entertaining second single, “Teacher.”

For those of us who thought, hoped, or lamented the fact that the boy band had faded, it hasn’t.  Leave it to Simon Cowell to resurrect the boy band from the dead.  His latest crop of heartthrobs is PRETTYMUCH.  As aforementioned, these boys definitely fit the bill in regards to looks. While eye-candy plays a big role in the marketability of the boy band, there also has to be catchy, music.  As of yet, PRETTYMUCH have released two singles: “Would You Mind” and “Teacher.” Question, do they ‘teach’ us anything?

Lots to like about “Teacher.” The swagger is real here.  This is constructed thanks to modern, urban-pop production, confident vocals, and game-laden lyrics.  The title is the first indication that “Teacher” is chocked-full of innuendo – the oldest trick in the book.  While it’s somewhat cliché, the boys play it off well.  The main point is conveyed without a doubt: five young adults, in their late teens, desire to ‘get it in.’ Predictable, but understandable.

The biggest rub is the fact that this ‘song and dance ain’t new.’ Boy bands come, and boy bands go.  Sex is always central, even if it’s suggestive rather than overt.  The case isn’t different here with PRETTYMUCH.  The song itself is good, but certainly not game changing.  Sure, this is clearly and upgraded sound to match the current times, but fundamentally, it’s the same.

Final Thoughts

All in all, PRETTYMUCH showcase their potential on “Teacher.” While the fundamentals are still fundamental, the latest boy band looks and sounds intriguing.  Simon Cowell seems to have the Midas Touch, so it won’t be surprising if PRETTYMUCH becomes the next big thing.
