Rising, Philly-bred pop musician Payson Lewis keeps the momentum rolling on his exuberant second single, “Bad Influence.”   

He compelled us once, “When Love Was Young”, now he compels us again! Who? That would be Philadelphia-bred pop artist Payson Lewis, who has been building his resume with covers and mash-ups. Lewis has been featured on Perez Hilton, Mashable, and Huffington Post, definitely a testament to his accomplishments early into his musical career.  Lewis returns with a brand-new single, “Bad Influence.” Question – is P.L. really a ‘bad influence?’ Of course, not – he continues to build his case as the next big thing!

Like previous single “When Love Was Young,” there are no shortage of selling points on “Bad Influence.”  Payson Lewis’ best attribute continues to be his voice, which sounds fantastic here. While he exhibits poise on the verses, he remains expressive; nuanced. He’s more electrifying on the chorus, and ‘lets it rip’ more as the record progresses.  That’s thoughtful pacing – better yet, excellent musicianship.

The record as a whole is well paced.  Initially poised, much like Lewis’ vocals, gradually more ‘cards are revealed.’  Among the best moments occur on the bridge, where the ‘rock’ element is more pronounced.  The guitars are more assertive, digging in more, while the record is generally more dynamic. Lewis matches the intensity vocally.  Safe to say, he closes out “Bad Influence” with some bite.

Final Thoughts

How does “Bad Influence” stack up? All in all, “everything is sound.”  This is another enjoyable, well-rounded record courtesy of Payson Lewis.  Lewis remains a compelling vocalist and a great musician.  The future is bright for Lewis for sure.
