Innuendo? More like full-on sexual vibes! Welcome to After Dark 🕛 🌃, a column featuring songs that are best suited for nighttime, specifically, the bedroom. Many of the records featured here raise eyebrows, as well as the temperature! These After Dark tunes focus on the universal three-letter word: SEX. The dark records gracing After Dark are old and new alike, with all genres of music welcome. In the 65th edition of After Dark (2022), we explore the naughty, risqué, & sexual vibes behind, 🎵 “O” performed by 🎙 Omarion.
Theme & Lyrics ✍
“No disrespect but I want it bad as they do / The only difference is / They look out for themselves / But I’m doin’ it just to hear you yell, yeah,” 🎙 Omarion asserts on 🎵 “O”. Clearly, the yelling is, um, sexual. “O” served as the debut solo single by the former 🎙 B2K member, as well as the title track of his 2005 album. 💿 O debuted at no. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spent a total of 30 weeks on the chart. Eventually, the album was certified gold. Likewise, “O” was a gold single, peaking at no. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 making it a moderate success.
Omarion attempts to paint himself as different (or slightly different) than these other guys trying to woo her. Even so, he still admits he’s a guy (lol), but also asserts he’ll sufficiently please her. I don’t believe BDE was coined in the mid-aughts, but it’s clear Omarion possesses it, particularly in the chorus.
“Oh
That’s gonna be the sound
Girl when it’s goin’ down
Your body sayin’
Oh
Don’t have to say my name
Girl I’m just glad that you came
So you can say
Oh, in the morning
Oh, in the night
You sayin’ oh means
I was hittin’ it right
Oh, oh, oh
You can’t be mad at me
I’m just aiming to please
Let me hear you scream, oh.”
Self-explanatory. Worth noting, “O” was penned by a team of writers including 🎼✍ Antonio Dixon, 🎼✍ Damon Thomas, 🎼✍ Durrell Babbs (Tank), 🎼✍ Eric Dawkins, and 🎼✍ Harvey Mason Jr.. Listening back to “O,” it certainly sounds like this is a record Tank would write and perform. I could continue to analyze it, but the big takeaway is Omarion is going to give her a massive – wait for it – “O!”
