ODESZA, A Moment Apart © CounterElectronic duo ODESZA concocts a gem with “Line of Sight,” one of five promo singles from their sophomore album, A Moment Apart

Who is ODESZA? Technically, it’s Catacombkid and BeachesBeaches.  More specifically, ODESZA is an electronic production duo based in Seattle, Washington.  On September 8, the duo drops its second studio album, A Moment Apart.  In advance of the project, they released five promo singles, including standout, “Line of Sight,” featuring WYNNE and Mansionair.

“Line of Sight” has a nice ambient, enigmatic quality that initiates the song.  The groove is excellent, once it enters into the mix, following the introductory vocal statement by WYNNE. The tone of the lead vocals is marvelous – simply beautiful through and through. The first verse has a pleasant nebulousness, which contributes to the enigma initially:

“I’m facing back to front / Over my shoulder at the sun / And it’s an open door / End of my line of sight once more.”

The chorus is well-rounded. It’s catchy, standing out to the listener:

“And I don’t learn, no I don’t learn / It’ll all be fine this time / And I don’t learn, no I don’t learn / Cos you always seemed so kind.”

Being an electronic record, it naturally features a breakdown section. Overall, this is well executed, following the chorus.  The second verse is more stable. By this point, the record has become firmly established, anchored by drums, warm synths, and continual appealing vocals.  The outgoing section of “Line of Sight” serves as one of its finest moments.

“Help me out, don’t let me down / I could learn from you / I could learn from you.”

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Line of Sight” is a gem, period.  It’s well-produced, well-performed, and well-conceived.  There are no glaring flaws.  Calling “Line of Sight” game changing would be an overstatement, but in regards to being a quality electronic track, it goes above and beyond.
