Noah Cyrus, Stay Together © RECORDS, LLCNoah Cyrus makes preparations to release her debut album, ‘NC-17.’ “Stay Together” marks the second single, following “Make Me (Cry).”

Long before Noah Cyrus released “I’m Stuck,” she collaborated with Labrinth on “Make Me (Cry),” a single that earned her some traction.  In between her breakout hit and her third single, Cyrus dropped “Stay Together.” Interestingly, it has a different sound than both “Make Me (Cry)” and the bizarre “I’m Stuck.”

Getting it out of the way, “Stay Together” resembles a certain song by another Cyrus – Miley.  While “Stay Together” isn’t a rewrite of “We Can’t Stop,” there’s the same sort of free-spiritedness that made that song a hit.  Here, it’s clear that Noah doesn’t “give a f*ck” because she says she doesn’t.  Back up a couple of lines and her rebelliousness unfurls:

“I drink straight to my head / I went outside to smoke a cigarette / And I shattered my phone on the cement / But I don’t give a f*ck.”

Okay… Moving on, she tells the DJ his “shit is boring,” asserting she’s “doing things that I will not regret until the morning.” Sigh – bad Noah, BAD! On the chorus, she essentially wishes the party could continue “for the night”:

“Whoa, oh-oh-oh / Nothing lasts forever / But wouldn’t it be nice to stay together for the night?”

The second verse continues the saga, though it’s a bit cleaner without the f-bomb – only a lonely damn takes its place.  No worries, unapologetic Noah returns on the bridge, as she reiterates the first verse and her IDGAF attitude.

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Stay Together” is okay.  This isn’t the second coming of pop, and Miley Cyrus doesn’t have to worry about her status as the queen of the Cyrus family.  The urban-pop production works well, while the unapologetic lyrics are… okay.  “Stay Together” doesn’t quite possess the formula to be a hit like “We Can’t Stop” or “Make Me (Cry),” but it’s okay.
