NF, Perception © CapitolChristian rapper NF impresses on “Outro,” the closing song and second single from his new album, ‘Perception,’ due October 6.

Here’s a good question.  What makes Christian rap Christian rap? Does it require explicitly spreading the gospel, or does it mean the music is simply devoid of secular things? Honestly, it depends on who you ask and the rapper himself.  NF (Nate Feuerstein) is considered to be a Christian rapper.  He doesn’t curse and eschews un-Christian subject matter.  Nonetheless, he’s not boring or the least bit square.  His first single from his album Perception, Green Lights,” was quite thrilling.  The same can be said of “Outro.”

“Outro” is dark from the jump. The production work is enigmatic, fiery, and impactful.  Naturally, the rhymes by NF match the intensity and vibe of the backdrop.  Like on “Green Lights,” he exhibits a killer flow.  Beyond the agility of his flow and an aggressive sound, the rhymes themselves are biting, chocked-full of emotion and passion.  It’s clear that NF is being real – authentic to the nth degree.

“Outro” isn’t catchy, and it’s not meant to be.  This is one, lengthy verse with NF spitting his heart out. There is no hook – this is straight rhymes.  It takes a skilled MC to pull this off and remain interesting.  Luckily for NF, he’s blessed with the gift of poetry, hence, he’s quite captivating, hook or hook-less.

Final Thoughts

Once more, NF impresses.  “Outro” showcases his immense skill as a rapper. Not that it needs to be mentioned again, but he’s electrifying without ever uttering a swear word or objectionable material. Sure, rap is a rough-and-tumble genre, known for its explicitness, but NF is able to maintain the edge without crossing the line.
