Mustard, 100 Bands [Photo Credits: 10 Summers / Interscope]Enlisting a star-studded cast comprised of Quavo, 21 Savage, Meek Mill, and YG, Mustard assembled a respectable, if predictable rap banger with “100 Bands.”

Mustard adds flavor to hot dogs and cheeseburgers, as well as serving as an important ingredient in devilled eggs.  Likewise, DJ and producer Mustard delivers flavorful production and always seems to have a banger on his hands.  The hit-maker remains ‘on-point’ on his single “100 Bands,” which taps a star-studded cast comprised of Quavo, 21 Savage, Meek Mill, and YG.

First and foremost, Mustard is the star of the show.  No, he isn’t spitting the rhymes – he leaves that to the aforementioned rappers – but the production is solid as always.  Sure, the sound is familiar, but it serves as ‘fuel for the fire.’ Quavo does what he does best, handle the chorus: “Hunnid bands, hunnid bands… / Ten bands in the right hand / Ten bands in my left hand.” Transcendent? Absolutely not, but it gets the job done.

Quavo goes on to rap the first verse, focused on money and of course, sex (“All these bitches fucking with me”).  21 Savage follows on the second verse, continuing the drip and sexual matters (“I’m on group facetime, me and all my hoes (On god)”).  YG at least makes a clever Ella Mai reference on the third verse (“Ella Mai trippin’, we do a lot of that / But it ain’t ever ‘bout a bitch, we trip to cobble Jack”).  As for Meek Mill, it’s pretty clear what he’s getting at on the fourth and final verse: “And they squatting on that dick like they doin’ fitness.” Wow!

Final Thoughts

All in all, “100 Bands” is a respectable, star-studded banger. Beyond that, “100 Bands” is cliché – we’ve ‘been there, done that’ many times.  Mustard delivers on the production, while all four rappers flex hard, but there’s nothing ‘brand-new’ or particularly innovative about this track.  Good, but the wheel certainly hasn’t been reinvented.
