Music Shopping List: Trey Songz Returns With ‘Tremaine’

Trey Songz (‘Tremaine the Album’) is the main attraction during the penultimate music release Friday in March 2017.

Ah, the penultimate music release date in March 2017! March 2K17 has had it’s moments – notably Ed Sheeran (÷) – but ultimately, it’s been relatively quiet. The biggest attraction this week comes from sensual R&B standout Trey Songz, who drops his highly-anticipated seventh studio album, Tremaine the Album. Beyond the release of Tremaine, “all’s quiet on the western front.”

1. Trey Songz, Tremaine the Album

Trey Songz returns after a three-year hiatus with his seventh studio album, Tremaine the Album. Tremaine the Album follows his critically-acclaimed 2014 effort, Trigga, which featured hits like “Na Na,” “Foreign,” and “SmartPhones.” Songz has heavily promoted Tremaine, releasing five songs ahead of the album: “Nobody Else But You,” “Playboy,” “Song Goes Off,” “She Lovin It,” and “Animal.” So far, so good for the sex-obsessed R&B artist.

2. Mike WiLL Made-It, Ransom 2

Eardruma/Interscope

Lauded producer Mike WiLL Made-It drops a new mixtape, Ransom 2. Ransom 2 has no shortage of big names guesting, including Big Sean, Gucci Mane, and Kendrick Lamar. Comprised of 17 tracks, three tracks arrived prior to the album, including single “Gucci on My,” featuring 21 Savage, YG, and Migos.

3. Betty Who, The Valley

Up-and-coming pop artist Betty Who returns with her sophomore album, The Valley. The Valley arrives three years after her debut LP, Take Me When You Go. The Valley is comprised of 13 tracks overall, with five songs arriving prior to its release: “Some Kinda Wonderful,” “You can Cry Tomorrow,” “Mama Say,” “Human Touch,” and I Love You Always Forever.” While Who is the star, she is assisted by Warren G on “Free to Fly” and Superfruit on “Beautiful.”

4. James Blunt, The Afterlove

Calling talented British singer/songwriter James Blunt a “one-hit wonder” sounds cruel, even if “You’re Beautiful” is his biggest, most widely known hit to date. Beyond his debut album Back to Bedlam, Blunt hasn’t experienced the same degree of success. Nonetheless, he continues to grind and returns with The Afterlove, his first album in nearly four years. The Afterlove follows Moon Landing, which was quietly released in October 2013. Comprised of 13 tracks, four tracks arrived prior to the album: “Love Me Better,” “Bartender,” “Make Me Better,” and “Time of Our Lives.”

5. Raekwon, The Wild

H20 / EMPIRE

Rap veteran Raekwon drops The Wild, his first album in nearly two years. The Wild follows Fly International Luxurious Art, which arrived in April 2015. Comprised of 16 tracks overall, three singles arrived ahead of the effort: “This Is What It Comes To,” “My Corner” (featuring Lil Wayne), and “Purple Brick Road” (featuring G-Eazy). In addition to guest spots from Lil Wayne and G-Eazy, Andra Day, CeeLo Green, and P.U.R.E. appear on The Wild.
