SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is.  I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet.  This week, I’ll merely examine the Billboard 200 📉 where I’ve picked out 10 notable observations with 🎙 Moneybagg Yo’s return to the penthouse leading the charge.

Billboard 200 📉

💭 Memphis rapper 🎙 Moneybagg Yo returns to no. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 💿 A Gangsta’s Pain after slipping to no. 2 last week. He knocks 🎙 DJ Khaled out of the top spot.  💿 KHALED KHALED slips to no. 3.

💭 As noted by Keith Caulfield in his write-up, 🎙 Dua Lipa is the sole female artist with an entry in the top-10 on the Billboard 200 as her 🏆 Grammy-winning album, 💿 Future Nostalgia, ascends from no. 7 to no. 5.  Worth noting, in the top-20 overall, there are few albums by women: 🎙 Ariana Grande (💿 Positions, no. 18) and 🎙 Taylor Swift (💿 Fearless (Taylor’s Version), no. 19).

💭 🎙 Weezer just misses the top 10. 💿 Van Weezer debuts at no. 11.  Beyond Weezer, the only other debut in the top 20 hails from 🎙 Tee Grizzley, who sees 💿 Built for Whatever launch at no. 15.

💭 The only other debut in the top-50 of the chart hails from 🎙 Toosii at no. 25 (💿 Thank You For Believing). 🎙 Jack Ingram, 🎙 Miranda Lambert, and 🎙 Jon Randall just miss the top echelon as 💿 The Marfa Tapes launches at no. 51.

💭 Following his top-10 debut last week (at no. 10), 🎙 Thomas Rhett experiences a 34-spot fall with 💿 Country Again (Side A).

💭 🎙 Kenny Chesney reenters the charts at no. 69 with 💿 Here and Now, which was reissued in deluxe form.  This week marks just the 11th week overall the album has spent on the Billboard 200.

💭 🎙 Quando Rondo debuts on the Billboard 200 – just not very notably.  💿 Still Taking Risks experiences a tepid no. 101 start.

💭 🎙 dodie launches at no. 115 with Build a Problem.  Not exactly an electrifying launch, of course.

💭 Perhaps the most disappointing debut of the week goes to 🎙 Bebe Rexha who sees her sophomore album, 💿 Better Mistakes, limp onto the Billboard 200 at no. 140.  Sadly, there’s just so little buzz around Rexha.

💭 Although Bebe Rexha experiences the most disappointing debut on the Billboard 200, relative to success she’s had on the Billboard Hot 100, there were worse debuts.  🎙 Lil Poppa, for example, launches at an unimpressive no. 160 with 💿 Blessed, I Guess.
