Metro Boomin, No Complaints © RepublicMetro Boomin taps rap superstars Offset (of Migos) and Drake for a respectable, new flex joint, “No Complaints.” All in all, the complaints are few.

“If Young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gon’ shoot you.” Metro Boomin is clearly one of the most demanded rap producers of recent times.  Listen to any number of recent hip-hop albums and you’re sure to hear the aforementioned Future sample, signifying a Metro Boomin production. The producer drops a new single, “No Complaints,” featuring Offset (Migos) and Drake.  The results are respectable but not game changing.

First, let’s highlight “the main man.”  The production work on “No Complaints” by Metro Boomin is rock solid.  The beat is electrifying, while they synths and sound effects are on point.  Young Metro never overdoes it – he provides perfect fuel for the fire of Offset and later, Drake.

Following the intro, Offset handles the hook as well as the first verse of “No Complaints.”  Naturally, he sets the tone for the hard-hitting banger.  The hook is on the lengthy side, as well as wordy.  Even so, it’s relatively catchy.

“Ain’t no complaints (nah) / Racks in the bank (racks) / F*ck what you think (huh?) / We got some rank (rank) / Leave your ass stank (bow) / Robbin’ the bank (bank) / Pull out the banger (raahhh) / You was a stranger (stranger)…”

Arguably, Offset’s verse is more impressive, embodying the triplet rhythms that helped make the flows of “Bad and Boujee” so captivating. He doesn’t offer anything revolutionary or ‘brand new’, but he continues the huge flex-fest tour that Migos are riding in 2017.

Drake offers a slight change of pace on the second verse.  No, he doesn’t sing or pop-rap! He matches the intensity of Offset, which is somewhat surprising.  Why? It’s not as if Drake never goes hard, but it’s at a point that it’s a rarity when he comes out ‘blazing.’ Does he say much in his rhymes? Nah, but it’s refreshing to hear him packing some punch.

Final Thoughts

All in all, there’s very few complaints about “No Complaints.” As previously mentioned, Metro Boomin kills the boards, Offset is on autopilot, and Drake goes hard.  Still, this isn’t the most dynamic or memorable rap record of 2017.  It’s good, but not great or elite.  Still, Young Metro is on to something.
