Marc E. Bassy, So Simple | Track Review 🎵

Pop up-and-comer Marc E. Bassy continues to heat up on “So Simple,” a single from his album, Gossip Columns. G-Eazy provides the assist.

We last heard from Marc E. Bassy in 2016, when he dropped his second EP, Groovy People.  Difficult to classify or pigeonhole, Bassy is eclectic. He incorporates pop, urban, and singer/songwriter cues into his music. This makes him a compelling artist – one chocked full of potential.  Perhaps the best way to categorize him is as a pop artist.  Following his 2016 EP, Bassy drops a full-length album, Gossip Columns. In advance of Gossip Columns, Bassy issued a number of singles including “So Simple,” “Plot Twist,” “You & Me,” and “Plot Twist (Remix).” G-Eazy assists Bassy on “So Simple.”

There’s lot to like about “So Simple.” It’s well-produced, featuring a balanced sound that’s not under- or over-produced.  The thing that truly stands out about the production is the groove, which is infectious. Vocally, Marc E. Bassy possesses a great set of pipes.  Much like the production itself, Bassy never over-sings – he is composed and poised, yet highly effective.  The subject matter isn’t game changing, but songs that deal with superficial folks, in this context a superficial girl, are often successful.  That’s the case with “So Simple.”

Some other selling points include the simple, but catchy chorus. Marc E. Bassy has also slips some game into the mix (“I slid a couple bitches I was cold as ice.”) The ubiquitous G-Eazy is made for “So Simple,” even if his rhymes are predictable at this point.  Cons? This isn’t the ‘song of the year,’ but it’s definitely enjoyable and worthy of spins.

Final Thoughts 

All in all, Marc E. Bassy does his thing on “So Simple.” It’s enjoyable, well-produced, well-performed, and he taps familiar collaborator G-Eazy, who is the perfect rapper for this one.  Great preview for Gossip Columns to say the least.
