Majid Jordan, The Space Between © OVO/Warner Bros.Toronto duo Majid Jordan returns with “Body Talk,” the fourth single from their sophomore album, ‘The Space Between’ (October 27).

It’s OVO (October’s Very Own) season – didn’t you know? Majid Jordan, comprised of Majid Al Maskati and Jordan Ullman, are back with their sophomore album, The Space Between.  Ahead of the album, they drop singles “One I Want,” “Phases,” “My Imagination,” and “Body Talk.”

After an unexpected dash of electric guitar kicks off “Body Talk,” the expected modern urban-pop backdrop comes alive.  The production work is sleek, slick, and ultimately, the expectation of Majid Jordan, specifically Jordan Ullman. Also worth noting, StarGate co-produces with Ullman. Vocally, Majid Al Maskati blesses the listener with his falsetto, which is ripe as ever.  Even though this is clearly a sexual song, Majid delivers with incredible taste, sans bad language.  That’s worth noting, given the explicit vibes the characterize the music industry as a whole.  In regards to fulfilling roles and expectations, Majid Jordan does this without a doubt.

The question is, how good is “Body Talk.” All in all, it’s respectable.  That said, “Body Talk” doesn’t reinvent the wheel or offer much brand new.  It’s well-produced and well-performed, as aforementioned.  Both Majid and Jordan fulfill their respective roles.  But, in regards to this being a memorable, game-changing song, it’s not.  “Body Talk” dabbles in familiar topics, and honestly, other artists have delivered more memorably.

Final Thoughts

So, what’s the verdict on “Body Talk.” Good, but not great.  Production and vocals receive high marks, while the song itself is good enough, but not next level.  If nothing else, however, it’s sexy, without having to ‘break a sweat,’ and that’s always a selling point.
