Mad Innuendo, 2015 and BeyondMad innuendo. 2015 and beyond.  That’s about the size of this playlist, which finds artists showcasing their sexy sides… musically.

“Come closer, baby, slap me like that snare.” “Only bought this dress so you could take it off.” “I’m going blind from this sweet, sweet craving.”  All of the aforementioned lyrics are perfect examples of sexual innuendo.  Merriam-Webster defines innuendo itself as “an oblique allusion: hint, insinuation.” Basically, sexual innuendo suggests or hints at sex. The 16 songs that grace this play list all contain mad innuendo.  Some go beyond the innuendo, bluntly referencing sex.  So, fair warning, if you’re looking for a family-friendly, ‘vanilla’ playlist-evergreen, this ain’t the one. The key requirement for this list was that all songs hail from 2015 or beyond. Without further ado, here’s Mad Innuendo and Sex, 2015 and Beyond.

1. alt-J, “Hit Me Like That Snare”

Relaxer • Atlantic • 2017

alt-J, Relaxer © AtlanticBritish alternative band Alt-J definitely have a sexual side, hence the kinky “Hit Me Like That Snare.”  Yes, “Hit Me Like That Snare” is risqué, but the band deserves credit for its concept. Even so, chocked-full of energy and swagger, sex ‘dominates’ – no pun intended.

On the first verse, Joe Newman sings:

“I’m fucking loose, you’re gorgeous, I don’t care
Come closer, baby, slap me like that snare.”

Ultimately, the record is over the top.  Even the suggestive moments are nasty to say the least.  At the end, Newman continues to flex unapologetic lustfulness, bitingly singing:

“We are dangerous teenagers
We are dangerous teenagers
Fuck you, I’ll do what I want to do.”

Can you say oversexed? It should also be noted that another song their album, Relaxer, incorporates “making it do.” That would be “3WW.” However, “3WW” isn’t merely about the sex that takes place.

 2. Taylor Swift, “Dress”

Reputation • 2017 • Big Machine

Taylor Swift, Reputation © Big MachineIndeed, the old Taylor Swift is dead.  Reputation finds Swift making lots of changes artistically.  The album is clearly even more pop-centric than 1989 was. Furthermore, it’s bolder and darker, even finding Swift cursing – “shit!” But, she doesn’t drop the s-bomb on the song at hand, “Dress.” She insinuates another s-word though – sex.

Yes, she gets sexy on “Dress,” asserting:

“Say my name and everything just stops
I don't want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
Take it off, o-o-off
Carve your name into my bedpost
‘Cause I don't want you like a best friend
Only bought this dress so you could take it off
Take it off, o-o-off.”

Ooh la-la.

3. Liam Payne, “Strip That Down”

Ft. Quavo

“Strip That Down” • Capitol • 2017

Liam Payne, Strip That Down © CapitolLiam Payne has been part of ample innuendo throughout his career as a member of One Direction (“No Control” comes to mind) and as a solo artist.  Payne released three singles as of publication time, all of which involved sex to some degree.  For our purposes, we’ll highlight Strip That Down,” his debut single where he’s assisted by Quavo.  Backed by gangsta, urban-pop production, Payne refrains from cussing, but, he’s ‘not that innocent.’

“You know, I love it, when the music’s loud
But c’mon, strip that down for me, baby
Now there’s a lot of people in the crowd
But only you can dance with me
So put your hands on my body
And swing that round for me, baby
You know I love it when the music’s loud
But c’mon, strip that down for me...”

4. Rihanna, “Kiss It Better”

Anti Westbury Road Entertainment / Roc Nation • 2016

Rihanna, Anti © Roc Nation“Been waitin’ on that sunshine.” “Kiss It Better” may sound like child’s play, but the song has nothing to do with a “boo-boo.” The omniscient-innuendo gods – or rather, the songwriters – weren’t writing an innocent pop song. “Boy, ya know that you always do it right” doesn’t reference morality, but rather the quality of the sex. Double entendre is amplified to the nth degree, causing every lyric to be read into. “Do” simply isn’t do anymore – it’s “doing it.”

“What are you willing to do?
Oh, tell me what you’re willing to do
(Kiss it, kiss it better, baby).”

Translation: sex, which is expanding more and more into a seven-letter word.

5. Peaches, “Dick in the Air”

Rub • I U She Music • 2015

Peaches, Rub © I U She Music“We’re sick of hands in the air
And shake our asses like we don’t care
We’ve been shaking our tits for years
So let’s switch positions, no inhibitions, fears.”

Peaches dropped a filthy, tongue-n-cheek joint with “Dick in the Air.” Naturally, the first ‘part’ that comes to mind when uttering the title is the penis.  Emptily reading into the chorus by Peaches, the same thought processes occur.

“Dick in the air, let me see you put your
Put your dick in the air.”

Interestingly, Peaches seems to be making points that go beyond sex itself, but, there’s too much wordplay to avoid characterizing this song as possessing mad innuendo.

“Went down got milk mustache...”
“Face down, dick up, that’s my command
...Drop, give me eight inches a pop
Stop, you’ve gone numb, you need a lift
Use a thumb, or take a fist.”

6. Sam Hunt, “Body Like a Back Road”

“Body Like a Back Road” • MCA • 2017

Sam Hunt, Body Like a Back Road © MCA Nashville“The way she fit in them blue jeans, she don’t need no belt
But I can turn them inside out, I don’t need no help
Got hips like honey, so thick and so sweet
It ain’t no curves like hers on them downtown streets.”

It’s not every day that innuendo is used to characterize country music.  Sam Hunt is not your traditional, every day country artist.  On Body Like a Back Road,” a back road is the LAST thing on his mind.  Hunt uses the curvy roads sexually.

The best example of this is the infectious, sensual chorus.

“Body like a back road, drivin’ with my eyes closed
I know every curve like the back of my hand
Doin’ 15 in a 30, I ain’t in no hurry
I’ma take it slow just as fast as I can.”

Cleverly, Hunt flips some urban references around.  Normally, rappers are inclined to speeding in regards to sexual metaphors.  Sam is different.  He clearly wants it to “go down,” but wishes to fully enjoy the experience.  Call it oxymoronic brilliance.

7. Niall Horan, “Slow Hands”

Flicker Capitol • 2017

Niall Horan, Flicker © Capitol“We should take this back to my place
That’s what she said right to my face
‘Cause I want you bad
Yeah, I want you, baby.”

Niall Horan looks the part of a sex symbol – the eyes, the hair, etc. BUT, the majority of his music lacks sexiness. However, the sole Irish member of One Direction has one tune that thrives off innuendo and makes him sound his age: Slow Hands.” Clearly, sex is on his mind on one of the loosest songs from his debut album, Flicker.

“Slow, slow hands
Like sweat dripping down our dirty laundry
No, no chance
That I’m leaving here without you on me
I, I know
Yeah, I already know that their ain’t no stopping
Your plans and those
Slow hands (woo)
Slow hand.”

8. DNCE, “Cake by the Ocean”

DNCE • Republic • 2016

DNCE © Republic“…See you licking frosting from your own hand
Want another taste, I’m begging, yes ma’am
I’m tired of all this candy on the dry land, dry land.”

Frosting huh – is that what they call it these days? Breakout hit “Cake by the Ocean” is among the most entertaining, fun, and carefree songs of the 00s. Even so, the fun is fueled by mad innuendo. Contextually, on DNCE, Joe Jonas and company previously dabble in sex on the track “Body Moves,” which precedes “Cake by the Ocean.” They extend the metaphor on “Cake.” At one point, Jonas describes her as being “fucking delicious” in an ad-lib.

The same sentiment could be said about “Cake by the Ocean” – it’s a truly infectious, highly suggestive gem.

“Talk to me, baby
I’m going blind from this sweet, sweet craving, whoa-oh
Let’s lose our minds and go fucking crazy
Ah ya ya ya ya I
Keep on hopin’ we’ll eat cake by the ocean.”

9. 3OH!3, “Inside Boy”

Night Sports Fueled by Ramen • 2016

3OH!3, Night Sports © Fueled By Ramen“She gets me woozy
Chasing for that coochie
Give her the Hitchcock when we’re making a home movie.”

3OH!3, comprised of Nathanial Motte and Sean Forman, are definitely your prototypical overgrown frat boys.  Personally, the audience who listens to their music can’t speak to their lifestyle. However musically, that’s the best way to characterize their music.  Dumb, stupid, carefree, lacking substance.  The shallowness is apparent throughout the course of Night Sports, which includes a song entitled, “My D*ck.” As charming as songs about junk are, “Inside Boy” garners our attention for this mad, innuendo occasion.

Just to reiterate, 3OH!3 is comprised of overgrown frat boys.

“This shit is Disney
I’m the Beast and she’s the booty.”
“She got me thrusting like a rocket off of Cape Canav...”

10. cupcakKe, “Deepthroat”

Cum Cake • cupcakKe • 2016

cupcakKe, Cum Cake [📷 : cupcakKe]You know what’s hard to believe? cupcakKe started out as a church poet.  Phew! On he first of two entries on this list, she amplifies sex to the nth degree.  “Deepthroat” appears on an album charmingly titled, Cum Cake.  Yeah, sounds totally delicious.

The ‘subtlety’ of the hook is a sight to behold:

“Hump me, fuck me
Daddy better make me choke
Hump me, fuck me
My tunnel loves to deep throat
Lick, lick, lick, lick (I lick it)
I want to eat yo dick (I do)...”

TMI.  But of course, that’s not even the half of it.  CupcakKe adds even more.

“Mouth wide open, mouth wide open
Mouth wide open like I was at the dentist
Mouth wide open, mouth wide open
Put it so deep, I can’t make a sentence.”

And of course, there’s much more.

“My fingers in it, gentle
Explore this n*gga mental...
My pussy pink just like salami...
My pussy mean, and it’s clean
...Keep it smelling like baby wipes
I never smell like sardines...”

11. Zayn, “Pillowtalk”

Mind of Mine • RCA • 2016

Zayn, Mind Of Mine © RCAZayn isn’t subtle about his status in life on “Pillowtalk,” his debut solo single from his 2016 debut album, Mind of Mine.  He expresses his intentions and wants the whole world to know that he’s a man who enjoys having sex. “Pillowtalk,” hence, is about getting some.

Zayn makes it clear he doesn’t give two flips who knows about his endeavors from the jump:

“Climb on board
We’ll go slow and high tempo
Light and dark
Hold me hard and mellow.”

The innuendo is “hard-hitting” and on-point, continuing throughout, particularly with the age-old, “So we’ll piss off the neighbors…” because of loud sex.  He’s clearest when he pounds his chest, singing:

“Yeah, reckless behavior
A place that is so pure, so dirty and raw
In the bed all day, bed all day, bed all day
Fucking and fighting on
It’s our paradise and it’s our war zone
t’s our paradise and it’s our war zone.”

12. Ariana Grande, “Side to Side”

Ft. Nicki Minaj

Dangerous Woman • Republic • 2016

Ariana Grande, Dangerous Woman © RepublicQuestion: Is Ariana Grande metaphorically speaking on “Side to Side”? Answer: Nah bruh! The innuendo is turnt. “Side to Side” isn’t the shallowest song ever, nor is incredibly deep.

“And boy I got ya
Cause tonight I’m making deals with the devil
And I know it’s gonna get me in trouble
Just as long as you know you got me.”

The same lyrics that offer “Side to Side” potential to be wholesome also play to the pleasures of the bedroom on the chorus.

“I’ve been here all night
I’ve been here all day
And boy, got me walkin’ side to side.”

Clearly, Grande sought to reinvent herself as a Dangerous Woman. Adding Nicki Minaj further confirms the sexual nature of the song:

“...Wrist icicle, ride dick bicycle
Come true yo, get this type of blow
If you wanna Minaj I got a tricycle.”

13. Tyler, the Creator, “Blow My Load”

Cherry Bomb • Odd Future • 2015

Tyler, The Creator, Cherry Bomb [📷 : Columbia]“The holy grail of your body, when you be kissin’
…You are the kitchen
I come quicker than pitches from Sammy Sosa.”

Oh geez.  Before Tyler the Creator exhibited more maturity on his 2017 album, Flower Boy, there was Cherry Bomb from 2015.  Notably, on Cherry Bomb, the unapologetic rapper decided to tackle his plumbing” on “Blow My Load.” Charming, said NO ONE ever. Songs about human plumbing are rarely lyrical masterpieces, let alone safe for work. He totally skips the mad innuendo in favor of sex to the nth degree.

“Your pussy tighter than door hinges
I munch you like sandwiches...
Face Time your cl*t, I will jack off my dick
I go hard, shit
I might need an ice pack on my wrist...”

Despite repulsing with his self-love practices – that’s a private matter Tyler – there’s lot to like that has nothing to do with sex. The production is sensual-sounding, while Wanya Morris (Boyz II Men) provides a lift with his soulful vocals and ad-libs.

14. Future, “Draco”

Future • Epic • 2017

Future, Future © Epic“Can’t tell she got teeth
I was in her mouth like veneers.”

On “Draco” (Future)  Future is indeed Super Future, at least from his perspective.  Early on, he makes it clear, “You ain’t never ever get your bitch back.” He continues asserting his awesomeness, bragging about his conquests, eventually spitting, “I’ve been drippin’ like a god with her.”

Ultimately, “Draco” is all about how potent his sex game is, hence its appearance on this mad innuendo playlist. “Rat tat!”

“I gave her her first ménage, what else?”

15. Kelly Clarkson, “Love So Soft”

Meaning of Life • Atlantic • 2017

Kelly Clarkson, Meaning of Life © AtlanticThroughout the course of Meaning of Life, Kelly Clarkson steps up her soul game. One of the most soulful joints is promo single Love So Soft,” a feisty cut that shows off mad personality. There are retro cues and vibes on this minor-key pop record, which prove to be a perfect match for Clarkson. Such cues include the punchy, boxy drums, gospel-driven backing vocals, and the horns.

The repetitive, biting chorus is modern, in line with the gimmicky pop dominating the game these days. There’s innuendo, even if Clarkson doesn’t cross the line or get too risqué.

“Love so soft, you ain’t had nothin’ softer
Break it, then you buy it, and it sure gonna cost ya
Love so soft that you can’t rub off
You gon’ love it, if you try it
Got you hooked, now you’re caught up
Love so soft, so soft (so soft)
Love so soft, so soft (so soft).”

The best feature of “Love So Soft” are the vocals. Clarkson’s pitch is great, her tone is ripe, and the nuances sublime. The falsetto towards the end is sick.

16. cupcakKe, “C*mshot”

Queen Elizabitch • cupcakKe 2017

CupcakKe, Queen Elizabeth [📷 : CupcakKe]“Murder my pussy without the gunshot
Just shoot me up my ass crack with a cum shot.”

Say What? There’s not much subtlety involved with cupcakKe, as aforementioned on “Deepthroat.” She’s incredibly blunt, noted by the title “Cumshot,” which leaves nothing to the imagination.  Sex is great fuel for any fire, but why in the world would anyone write a song about this? Arguably, the Chi-Town rapper comes off incredibly aggressive and desperate.  Not particularly a good look.  That said, she’s not new to this: There’s “Best Dick Sucker,” “Cool Fuck,” and of course, “Deepthroat.” With cupcakKe, take your pick of filthy songs.

“Do anything that you say bae, you ain’t gotta wait bae
Place a lot of nut inside my mouth like Payday.”

Eww, gross! “Cumshot” landed on additional playlists, including
