SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. To reiterate what I said last week (Alicia Keys Debuts at No. 4), this column won’t be extensive, but rather short and sweet, keeping that 💩 moving. This week, I picked out SIX notable observations from the Billboard 200, and four observations from the Billboard Hot 100, with Machine Gun Kelly debuting at no. 1 on the Billboard 200, and Travis Scott launching at no. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Billboard 200
💭 At No. 2, there’s finally a shift on the Billboard 200. SuperM debut with their first full-length album, Super One: The 1st Album.
💭 The debuts keep on rolling in as Joji sees Nectar launch at no. 3.
💭 Deftones also earns top-five love as Ohms, the band’s first album since 2016, launches at no. 5. Rock on!
💭 Debuts, debuts, and more debuts, with two more in the top 10 alone! Carrie Underwood unleashes My Gift at no. 8 while Tory Lanez controversially closes things out with Daystar.
💭 Beyond Underwood and Lanez, we get more new entries from the likes of Natalie Grant (No Stranger, no. 13), Melanie Martinez (After School EP, no. 74), A$AP Ferg (Floor Seats II, no. 143), and Sufjan Stevens (The Ascension, no. 153), among others.
Billboard Hot 100
💭 Expectedly, Machine Gun Kelly sees a number of songs from his album, Tickets to My Downfall debut on the Hot 100 including “Forget Me Too” (featuring Halsey) and “Bloody Valentine” (nos. 44 and 50 respectively).
💭 Polo G debuts at no. 47 with his latest single, “Epidemic.”
💭 ZAYN could’ve certainly done “Better” than his no. 89 start, right?
