Keyshia Cole delivers a poise, respectable vocal performance on “Vault,” a teaser track from her seventh studio album, ’11:11 Reset.’  

Keyshia Cole was once a force in R&B. Of course, she was a force when the genre of R&B was more of a course as a whole.  However, in 2014, Cole dropped the worst album of her career, Point of No Return. Furthermore, it didn’t sell.  Now, following an incredibly quiet, lackadaisical promotional campaign, she releases her new album, 11:11 Reset.  In advance of the album, Cole released four singles including “Vault.”

“Vault” commences minimally and mysteriously. The sound palette incorporates some bass, a few spare guitar notes, and a dash of percussion.  The sound is alluring, despite being spare, but not necessarily awe-inspiring.  Once Keyshia Cole begins singing, she naturally adds more oomph, delivering beautiful, expressive vocals.  Even so, the backdrop remains poised as well as mysterious. The vibe is romantic and intimate.  Even though Cole lists exactly what she wants in a man, she keeps it tasteful for the most part.  Pros, hence, are the vibe, minimalist production, and of course, Cole’s vocals.

There are no glaring cons in regards to “Vault,” but, there isn’t much to ‘get into’ here.  It’s clear that Cole seems to be looking for the real deal in man, but as far as the song itself being memorable, it’s not.  It’s good and has its share of moments, but not among the crème de la crème of her rich catalogue necessarily.

Final Thoughts 

All in all, “Vault” gives Keyshia Cole a respectable single.  She delivers a controlled, yet solid, expressive vocal performance.  This doesn’t wow like some of her more high-flying songs or performances of the past, but it’s above average by all means.
