Kane Brown, Kane Brown Deluxe © Sony Music NashvilleAhead of the release of the deluxe edition of ‘Kane Brown,’ Kane Brown drops an enjoyable, if ‘no-frills’ promo single, “Found You.”

Kane Brown is among country music’s rising newcomers. He doesn’t look the part of a country artist, but he’s quickly changing perceptions. Following a slow, but steady promo, the country newcomer released his self-titled debut album in late 2016.  He returns, less than year later, with Kane Brown Deluxe Edition, an expansion of his breakout album.  Ahead of the deluxe version, Brown issued a new single, “Found You.”

Staring with the good.  Brown has a pleasant voice, which sounds great on “Found You.” It’s deeper than many, which gives him a leg-up, particularly in country music. It also doesn’t hurt he has a little twang going on as well. As for the sound of the record, it leans on country as opposed to pop.  Like most good songs, “Found You” has a catchy hook working in its favor.

“‘Cause I'd have never found you
At that random house party that I didn't even wanna go to
The way you move
Had me first time feelin' in a while I should make one too
Sometimes the finish line is just the start of something new
If I'd have never lost her
Then I'd have never found you
No, I'd have never found you
Never found you.”

In addition to the pros, there are a few cons.  While Brown sounds the part, he could use a bit more oomph artistically.  Listening to “Found You,” it lacks that ‘killer instinct.’  It’s not that Brown isn’t invested, but you want him to take this to the next level, and it just doesn’t quite make it. The song itself is good, but not great.  After listening, there’s the sense of, ‘so what?’

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, “Found You” is good, but nothing more.  This isn’t a great song, but has its share of ‘good’ moments. The ‘next steps’ for Brown is to showcase more personality, oomph, and ‘killer instinct.’
