Fifty Shades Freed © RepublicGrammy-nominated pop singer-songwriter Julia Michaels sounds heavenly on “Heaven,” the fourth teaser track from the ‘Fifty Shades Freed’ original motion picture soundtrack.

“Love’s my religion / But he was my faith / Something so sacred / So hard to replace.”  Another week, another new advance single from the Fifty Shades Freed original motion picture soundtrack.  Following the risqué “The Wolf,” courtesy of newcomers The Spencer Lee Band, Grammy-nominated pop singer-songwriter Julia Michaels gets in on the action with “Heaven.” The question is, is “Heaven” truly heavenly?

“Heaven” commences enigmatically – there’s a ‘sketchiness.’  The vibe of this record fits the perception and sensibilities of the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise.  Vocally, Julia Michaels sings expressively, showcasing the beauty of her instrument without over-singing in the least. It’s by no means a performance that can be characterized as ‘the second coming,’ but it’s successful and well-executed overall. The production keeps things light, never growing the least bit overwrought.  In addition to the unique, lightness of the production, arguably the biggest selling point of “Heaven” is the memorable chorus.

“No need to imagine / ‘Cause I know it’s true / They say ‘all good boys go to heaven’ / But bad boys bring Heaven to you / It’s automatic / It’s just what they do / They say ‘all good boys go to heaven’ / But bad boys bring heaven to you.”

The poetic, mysterious nature of the bridge also fits the Fifty Shades of Grey script. Michaels sings:

“I still remember the moment we met / The touch that he planted / The garden he left / I guess the rain was just half that effect.”

Final Thoughts

All in all, “Heaven” gives Julia Michaels and the Fifty Shades Freed soundtrack another worthwhile musical moment.  With four singles arriving at publication time, arguably, this is among the best.
