W
ell, SCANNING THE CHARTS is just what it says it is. I, the quirky founder, and do-it-all at The Musical Hype scans through the Billboard Charts and picks out things that catch my eye. This column isn’t extensive, but rather short and sweet. This week, I picked out 8 notable observations from the Billboard 200 📉, and 5 observations from the Billboard Hot 100 📉, with 🎙 Adele remaining no. 1 on the Billboard 200 while 🎙 Juice WRLD debuts posthumously in the runner-up slot.Billboard 200 📉
💭 💿 Fighting Demons, the second posthumous album by melodic rapper 🎙 Juice WRLD debuts at no. 2 on the Billboard 200.
💭 🎙 YoungBoy Never Broke Again and 🎙Birdman crack the top-20 with 💿 From the Bayou. It debuts as the second-highest debut on the Billboard 200 at no. 19.
💭 🎙 MONSTA X just misses the top-20 as 💿 The Dreaming settles for a no. 21 bow.
💭 Despite the fact that 🎙 Rick Ross is in top-notch form (or near-top-notch form) on 💿 Richer Than I Ever Been, he settles for a modest no. 22 start. I question his riches after the bow of this LP…
💭 You think 🎙 Rick Ross was disappointed by his numbers? What about former chart queen 🎙 Alicia Keys, whose latest LP, 💿 Keys misses the top-40 altogether and settles for a tepid no. 41 start. Ouch!
💭 Less surprising than meh starts for Ross and Keys is the no. 59 launch of 💿 Alone at Prom, the latest album by 🎙 Tory Lanez. I’m surprised it debuted that high… no shade… well… not that much…
💭 🎙 Neil Young / Crazy Horse launches at no. 66 with 💿 Barn.
Billboard Hot 100 📉
💭 🎙 Adele sees 🎵 “Easy on Me” fall from no. 1 to no. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 after seven nonconsecutive weeks in the penthouse. Besides Mariah Carey, who else pushed Adele to the side? That would be 🎙 Brenda Lee and 🎵 “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.”
💭 🎙 Juice WRLD and 🎙 SUGA earn the highest debut on this week’s Billboard Hot 100. 🎵 “Girl of My Dreams” launches at no. 29. By the way, a second 💿 Fighting Demons record, 🎵 “Burn,” debuts at no. 34. More re-enter or debut from the album as well.
💭 Worth noting, 🎙 Earth Kitt with 🎙 Henri Rene and his Orchestra debut on the Hot 100 for the first time at no. 50 with 🎵 “Santa Baby.” Better late than never, right? Right!
💭 Rapper 🎙 A Boogie Wit da Hoodie debuts at no. 82 with 🎵 “Man in the Mirror.”
